It’s amazing definitely worth paying a visit when your in the area Out in the middle of Mortain on Hill 314 is the small chapel of St Michel. Turning point of the war where "the lost battalion" fought the Germans. Great views towards Mont Saint Michel but only visible on clear days. Very peaceful a good place for a picnic. This iconic place of the battle of Normandy give a great perspective of the violent fights of this area in 44. The view of Normandy is beautiful and its explain itself why this place was so hardly disputed! A very respectful place to visit, in memory of those who gave their lives in the War. And a Wow to the view from behind the chapel. Another must visit place. Beautiful view and beautiful little chapel. You can see Mont St Michel. Great history about the 1-230th field artillery. Beautiful One of my places to go if I need to be tranquil. The walk to the Petit Chapel is through a wooded pathway which passes a memorial to the fallen. Then at the end of the pathway you are faced with the Petit Chapel. Walk around either left or right and follow the pathways which lead to a stairway to what is probably the most breath taking panorama in Normandie. Pick your time to visit either sunrise or an hour before sunset. If your lucky you will be able to see Mont Saint Michel. And the view of the Bion Valley is amazing.
