Found this place nearly a year ago and stopped over recently for food. Did not disappoint, good menu, reasonable prices. Cake fridge looks good. Food was hot and plentiful. When we placed our order we were told straight away it would be a while. The gentleman kept us informed about the order. Not too far a detour from the M6. Very characterful and friendly place. We were staying in a campsite a few miles away from The Smithy Inn and looking on the map decided to go there for lunch. We walked about 1.5 hours to get there and we were not disappointed. We arrived about 5 mins before they stop serving food and they couldn't be more lovely and accommodating serving us lovely foods and deserts. Also, they were accommodating to provide vegan option for our vegan friend. Their facilities/toilets very clean and tidy. Lovely atmosphere, great food and lovely staff. If it happens that you're in the area, well worth to give them a visit. Couldn't have asked for anything more. Friends recommended The Smithy and it didnt disappoint us. We took our two small dogs and they were made welcome. A great atmosphere with friendly staff was just the start. The quality of the food and the top service added to our lovely evening. Great service, great food, beat that! Don't hesitate to try it! We were absolutely delighted by the quality and speed of service on early Sunday afternoon. We had just under 1 hour to eat before our bus home arrives. The lady we spoke with gave us advice on quickest dishes and they arrived very quickly indeed. Visiting that pub was a great way to finish our walking in the countryside. Highly recommended. Nice pub with welcoming atmosphere and friendly staff. Food was nice, we both chose the sirloin. Word of warning though, when given the choice of veg or salad choose the salad. We asked for veg thinking would probably be peas but came with carrots and cabbage as well. With the chips, mushrooms, onion rings and tomato it was all a bit too much. Peas and cabbage both pretty anaemic so we left those. Good choice of puddings which were delicious. Loved it here I was very dubious when I entered as its very old fashioned and felt a bit intimidating cause everyone knew each other but we were made to feel welcome and the food was amazing I ordered Sunday dinner and it was perfect there was actually too much meat for me but not for my partner I dont say that often I hope this never changes cause it would lose that old school type pub but I got more for my money here than I would in a restaurant I was so impressed We had an excellent family meal here while passing through on our way to Edinburgh — a much-needed and far more enjoyable alternative to a typical service station stop. The staff were exceptionally friendly and welcoming, even offering my sons darts to play with without us needing to ask. The food was outstanding, served in generous, hearty portions. Highlights included the perfectly cooked steak and chips with peppercorn sauce, warm baguette generously filled with prawn cocktail, and the homemade sticky toffee pudding. May well have to make a detour here on our way back to London. Amazing Food Five of us have been working at Burton Services and needed a place for our evening meal. Doing some online research I came across the Smithy Inn, Milnthorpe Rd, Holme, Carnforth LA6 1PS. What amazing food they do, we all had different items form the menu and everyone was happy with what they had ordered. I had the Steak pie, having eaten many pies over the years I can say this was the best ever !. Quit often you get lumps of fat and gristle, but the Smithy Pie was just solid perfect meat. On our next visit a few days later I had the Fish & Chips again cooked to perfection. Our team will certainly be going back a few more times over the coming weeks while we are working in the area. What a gem of a Public House and Restaurant, well worth a visit if you are in the area.
