One of the best hikes in Allgäu Great hike. From car park to trailhead about 2km there seems to be a paved road with bike, some cars and a bus service - less of a joy going in and out. If you are with a dog, the cows here are the most aggressive I have seen. Scenery is stunning. I think we found heaven. Hike is difficult but possible. From the public parking at Hindestein it took us 4 hours and a half to go up, and 2 hours 30 to go down. 8h total since we spent an hour at the lake. We hike only a few times a year so we are not in the best shape. Moral of the story: Only made for people who train every day or unless you are a German Oma or Opa. Actual total time: 6 hours in total Level of steepness: Deathly thanks to the pebbles-of-death Total height: 1857m Total km: 4.5 km Worth it? After a twisted ankle going down hill? No thanks! The view is decent but definitely not worth the hassle. Absolutely loved my hiking experience at Schrecksee! The adventure it offers is unparalleled. It's advisable to begin early to make the most of the day. The breathtaking view of the Alps is simply mesmerizing. The turquoise-colored lake feels like something out of a dream. The ascent took around 3 hours, followed by a 3-hour descent. During my visit, the trail was blissfully uncrowded, allowing me to savor nature's beauty in solitude. While en route, I encountered a handful of fellow hikers. Schrecksee's secluded charm is owed to its challenging trail, which might not be suitable for everyone. If you're seeking an off-the-beaten-path gem, this is it! The trail has some difficult parts with its loose rocks, but in general is not a hard one. The lake is beautiful and perfect for a swimming when you get there. Out of the world views and a fantastic trek. The trek is rated as medium difficulty but if your fitness level is so-so then this one is going to burn you out ! There are patches with loose rocks so good trekking shoes and trekking poles are a must !! We parked at Hinterstein and took the bus to Gibelhaus. We missed the first stop ( Auele) but even from the second stop the trail leads to a common point. The second stop is slightly easier as compared to the first one as the latter is quite steep with loose rocks. Overall amazing trek , the views are awesome and the pain is totally worth it !! Important: the road which goes to the Trail Head is in the nature zone. So if you are going by car then you have to park at Hinterstein. There are heavy fines if private cars are used on this road. One of my best hikes in europe 2:30 hrs up 2:00 hrs down Another 20 mins to climb up to the top of mountain on the border Will definitely come again Website change monitoring Monitor any webpage for changes – get instant email alerts when prices drop, new jobs are posted, products come back in stock, or competitors update their sites.
