Great place for walks. We did a trail through the forest. Gonna go back and to the alone circles. Had a great day out here. One thing to note is when you first arrive, there is a carpark with a playground, but to get to the carpark, go through the first carpark and further up the road. The itself is a compact building with toilets, a reception and waiting area, and a small refreshments area where you can buy water, soft drinks, coffee, and chocolate. We did the tour in the Observatory, which you can book online. Our tour guide, Hannah, was very knowledgeable and made it all very interesting. We visited during the day and will definitely be back in the Autumn months when it is dark earlier. They hold different events here, so keep an eye on the website for these. We then walked from the to Beaghmore Stone Circles, which is a 35/40 minute walk. This is another very site for anyone who enjoys Neolithic or Bronze age history and has a possible link to the sky and our constellations. We will be back, maybe with others in tow! Booked a one hour exhibition and telescope tour as an introduction to the OM Observatory. Staff are great - very friendly and welcoming. There's a lot to look at and read in the exhibition room. Took a look at the main telescope in its dome and used the solarscope to look at the sun. An (unique) visitor attraction and very good value for the ticket price. Thoroughly enjoyed my time there. 🙂 Friendly knowledgeable staff full of facts and figures about our Galaxy and beyond. Great location. on newly built board to visit the nearby Beaghmore stones (possibly one of Ireland's oldest observatories🤩. A great spot for a family day out. We did the tour of the observatory, Ciara, our guide, was fantastic. A lovely, warm, friendly lady who was knowledgeable and able to answer all our questions. The other ladies that were on reception were super friendly and welcoming as well which just added to the experience. We done the short (20 minute) trail through the forest and the solar to Beaghmore stone circles, (45 mins each way, taking our time to look around). The is mostly boardwalk which was lovely and we spotted lots of wildlife. The stone circles at Beaghmore is a well kept site, very and definitely worth the trip. We finished off the afternoon at the and getting a photo with the star gazing giant. Overall a fantastic day out. This is a nice place to learn a little about the skies, but it is a small site so you won't have much to see in the building. The comes into its own with all the events it offers: viewing the sky with telescopes once a month; walking tours talking about the stars above us, and so on. When we visited it was absolutely chucking down so we didn't do any self-guided walks, but I will definitely go back on a nice day to do the out to the stones. This would be a fab one to do a during the afternoon, visit the centre for a talk and then do one of their night events. Out of the control of the park, but the roads to get there are atrocious so drive carefully. They are single track roads with a speed limit of 60mph: the local council need to be working to make them 30mph with speed ramps if they want people to visit and be safe. If you go in winter to view night skies too, you will be fine as you will see lights approaching, but be really careful during the day and on lighter nights. What lovely staff at this observatory, nestled in Davagh Forest amid a treasured Dark Sky Area. Jacqui and Hannah made our visit so welcoming and informative. On a perfectly clear sky, we were enthralled by the amount of constellations that adorned a deep, rich velvet sky as darkness settled in. It may be a small but with prestige bathroom facilities, hot beverages and a warm welcome, we couldn't fault it. Maybe next visit, there will be hammocks or similar areas to lie back and look up at the amazing sky... 🌟😊 Very disappointed with the park, good amount of walks but not s single native forest. Should be called commercial plantation, as far as eye can see only non-native sitka spruce and recently harvested dead zones. Toilets were great and didn’t get a chance to check as next tour was scheduled in hour so might have given another star if got that experience.
