I accidentally read about Moret-sur-Loing and I have visited it recently. I am amazed by this beautiful place. I got Moret-sur-Loing, walking about 15 minutes from the SNFC station. I entered through the magnificent city gate from the 12th century, which is a part of the old fortress. I walked down the main street slowly, so I could take some photos and look at those beautiful old houses. I stopped in the courtyard of City Hall, where you can see the lovely Renaissance gallery of the early 16th century. I continued then examining the town to the Église Notre Dame, a magnificent Gothic building from 12-13 century. Next to it is the house in which in 1638 were cooked for the first Sucre d'Orge – sugar sticks (barley sugar or candy cane) and later on they were spred across the the world to the delight of all children. And right behind the church is the house in which the famous Impressionist painter Alfred Sisley used to live, whose monument greets us even before entering the medieval city. Walking down on the same street I came to the Donjon, a medieval castle that has accommodated the Capetian dynasty, the mistress of King Henry IV, Jacqueline de Bueil, Countess de Moret (1588-1651 ). In 1664 Nicolas Fouquet, superintendant of Finance of the young King Louis XIV was kept under the watch of the famous mousquetaire d'Artagnan. When I went out the other gate of the city, I understood why the city was an inspiration of Impressionist painters – the bridge over the river and the old mill, swimming swans and beautiful panorama of the medieval village. Surely everyone should visit this real jewel in the Île-deFrance. Helpful staff and gradually improving their resources in English. Beautiful small village. Picturesque and fairytale like. Must visit if you're looking for a quaint spot in the midst of nature. Lovely patisseries and boulangeries. You can sit by the river or watch swans and ducks. The ladies in the office are very kind. We live on a boat, and were visiting Moret for only a few days. They received several packages for us that contained badly needed boat parts. Very nice Moret-sur-Loing est une cité médiévale pleine de charme, avec ses ruelles pavées, ses portes fortifiées et ses bords de Loing paisibles. Un lieu idéal pour une promenade bucolique, entre histoire et nature. Un véritable coup de cœur à moins d'une heure de Paris. Espérons que la mairie permette à nouveau bientôt les avis sur la ville pour que d'autres puissent partager leur expérience. Plein de choses à découvrir sur Moret, dont le petit parcours autour de l'artiste Sisley. Jolie ville au bord du Loing très fréquentée quand il fait beau. Nous avons pu profiter de la halte Nautique pendant 4 nuits, (très bien), dommage que la collecte des poubelles publiques ne soit pas à la hauteur. Les poubelles débordaient avant la fête médiévale, deux jours plus tard c'est pire. Pouvez vous anticiper la collecte en fonction des WE et des animations ? Mauvaise image pour les touristes et les déchets finissent dans le Loing. Very helpful and friendly staff. They have a great brochure about Moret and the surrounding villages in English.
