This year, we had the good fortune to spend a month in this picturesque Bavarian village. We enjoy moderate hikes, and there are dozens within walking distance of the city center. The quaint, walkable (though please look for car traffic), village is everything one would hope for in a holiday trip to Bavaria. Most stores are small and locally owned so the service is friendly and accommodating. Learning some basic German phrases is recommended as not everyone knows English. Many people, especially the servers, are fluent in 3-4 languages, so you should find yourself feeling at home. I spent many days wandering around and leisurely taking in the many frescoes on the buildings depicting local village life, fairy tales, or scenes from the Bible. I enjoy sitting outside with a hot tea at one of the many restaurants and cafes and discovering things I’d not noticed on previous trips as I walk about. I highly recommend Oberammergau as it has become a favorite set of memories for us over the years. Very pretty village surrounded by mountains. Definitely worth a stop over if you’re passing through. The drive through here is also magnificent too Famous for its Passion Play, next showing in 2030. Beautiful location in the Bavarian Alps and a short drive from Munich. Can easily spend a day here exploring the shops, attractions and restaurants. Had a lovely meal in the Wolf Hotel and it's where the locals eat.
