Super cute village but the gite is surrounded by stray dogs that disturbed our table during dinner. Level of hygiene can be improved. Wifi does not work very well and it is accessible only in the reception area which closes after 10pm. From the car park it says 400m. to the castle ruins. It may be 400 m on distance, but given the climb up it feels a lot longer. It's very good exercise just to get there. The views are staggering, Montségur is visible in the distance. The ruins are just that, ruins, and in need of some restoration, but entry is free; perhaps it shouldn't be and then there would be some funds available to make it a more satisfying visit. Updated review: We visited the site after a 20km hike. The staff was friendly, helpful and the beer was lovely and cold!!! It was not lunch/dinner time so no meals available. And no snacks to purchase. The bar, toilet and lower rooms were not clean. We do not expect new, perfect or expensive. But this gite needs some care and effort made for hygiene. We had visited 15+ other country pubs/gites on the Cather trail so my comments are in reference to standards in the area. I am sure with attention this venue could be very nice. Two starts for lovely cold beer! Absolutely amazing place to stay on the GR 107! Very clean room with clean sheets and towels provided for a small fee. Shared bathroom had very hot shower and was very clean. Games, common area, and lovely outdoor space to relax after a long day. Compelling craft beer and wine selection. Three course family style dinner was delicious and filling - zucchini and chèvre tart, pork and pasta, cheese and apple tart. Breakfast was available starting at 6:30 am so we could hike out early, and the packed lunch was filling (dried nuts and fruit, a hard boiled egg, apple sauce, lentils, and bread). Proprietor was so friendly and relaxed. It was really important to him we have a nice stay. WiFi was solid (took a bit to connect). Nice place, conveniently located at the end/start of a hiking trail. Friendly people and they serve cold local beer! Clean, plain room. Stayed a night while walking Sentier de Cathare. Very convenient. Great location. as the Gite is close to the trail. Communal dinner was a great chance to meet people from around Europe. This is an excellent gite on the Cathar Trail. It's lively, communal, and the rooms and food are great. If you arrive in summer, the entrance might remind you of a pub, with lot's of people enjoying a beer in the sunshine.
