The road at the top is a little narrow and difficult to park the car but it`s possible. When we reached the green area we found locals making barbecue and listening to music - I guess the place is popular in weekends and holidays. We even saw a wild pig not very far away from the people, just laying down and not bothering anybody. The view from here is great. We were lucky that we were alone at the viewpoint although the area is quite popular. Fort Vrmac sits on a ridge above Kotor and dates back to the late 19th century, around 1894, built by the Austro-Hungarian Empire as part of a defense system against the Ottoman Empire. Today, it’s an abandoned but atmospheric ruin with two walkable levels that offer a glimpse into the region’s military history. The fort itself doesn’t offer much in terms of sights, but it’s an interesting place to explore, especially if you’re into history or forgotten places. When I visited, a few locals were barbecuing up there (on a Monday, surprisingly), and some pigs were wandering around, an unexpected but charming scene that added to the experience. The hike up is definitely the highlight. I parked down by the sea in Kotor and walked all the way up, which took me about 1 hour and 10 minutes at a fairly fast pace. The trail offers great views and passes through beautiful natural surroundings. I wouldn’t recommend going up just for the fort itself, but as part of a scenic hike, it’s a rewarding stop. So nice and atmospheric place. Place where you feel wind of freedom... From one side of there shows Kotor, from another-Tivat. Definitely recommend Very easy to find and accessible. You can park by the road. The fortress is on top of a hill overlooking the Bay of Kotor. You cannot enjoy this view from inside the fortress. Still, a very interesting walk because the building is quite well preserved. It is worth taking a flashlight with you, because it is dark there. You definitely have to be careful, because the building is old and falling apart. Easy to find, clean and seemed enough safe. Take some lite with you. In some places there are some holes, but not too many, so watch your step. Building in good shape but nothing very interesting. Excellent hiking area. Walk up ti the radio tower is easy and beautiful This was just such an interesting place to visit. The climb from Kotor only takes a maximum of two hours, and this was despite very heavy bags we carried - if you're just doing this as a day hike it will be a very doable hike. While the area was under control of the Habsburg empire this fort was built, and a lot of the path leading up to it is also still original and from that time, which means that walking up you will be walking on a path a lot of the time. The entire way up the views of the bay get better and better and the nature is quite beautiful too. Next to the Fort there are some abandoned houses - I do not know what they used to be used as, but my theory is that they're from soviet times... The fort itself is in remarkably good shape and seemed relatively safe to explore. You can enter through one of the windows on the first floor, I wasn't able to find a door. You should have a phone or a lamp with you for the darker corners, especially as there are some big holes lurking on the second floor (not because the building is falling apart but because it seems to have been designed that way). The fort is bigger than it seems from the outside! If you're interested in history and seeing old or abandoned buildings I definitely recommend checking this out. The fortress at the hill top is pretty much in ruins, and the surrounding trees are blocking majority of the views. The route up there was better experience, even though a little bit unclear. For views, I would still recommend other hikes in the area This is amazing view on the Bay of Kotor and the Old Town of Kotor. Here is the real beauty of Kotor and the magnificence of the city itself It was a interesting visit. But very creepy. Someone has placed female shoes in one room which makes it even creepier. If you like history or a bit of something different away from the main tourist path it’s worth a visit and the views on the drive up are beautiful We really loved exploring here, we arrived at 8am in April and had the whole place to ourselves, it feels spooky especially as we only had phone lights and there are a lot of bats flying at the top.
