Popped in here today on the way back from wycombe, was outstanding, had a fella helping us from the minute we walked in the door. Grabbed a he brought over menus with colouring for our little girl, drinks came super fast, food came out fast, hot and delicious. Best fish goujon sandwich ive ever had. The two we dealt with were really nice and welcoming with us, our daughter and our spaniel. Can't recommend this pub more. We'll definitely be stopping again when we're on the a4. After looking at other reviews from today and over hearing other tables in the restaurant. We don't seem to be the only ones who had an awful experience today. My partner and I arrived at 1555 for a 1600 booking. We had paid a £20 deposit for the table. We were ignored at the bar for 10 minutes before someone finally acknowledged us. We eventually were shown to our and received the menus and were able to get our drinks reasonably quickly. However, the was today was incredibly slow and poor. The roasts were very slow to arrive and average at best; not one person checked in with us to how our food was at any point or offer anymore drinks. On asking for the bill, the £20 deposit hadn't been removed, and they had added a charge. Which doesn't bother me when deserved, but here it wasn't. We had to go to the bar in the end to settle our after 45 minutes and three attempts of asking to bring a correct to our table. We were almost tempted to walk out, to be honest. The manager (I presume, as she seemed to be the only person able to adjust the bill) was incredibly rude and blasé, and didn't address the fact that two customers had to come to the bar to pay their or why we asked for the to be removed. Utterly atrocious and the gall to a deposit and automatic tip for a with non-existent is risible. There are multiple pubs not far away that are far more deserving of your custom. We won't be returning. I stayed here for two nights while working nearby, and it completely exceeded my expectations. The was spacious with a big bathroom, and I loved the little touches — a digital radio playing classics when I arrived, and a fridge with chilled water and milk. The were kind, warm, and super efficient — they really made the feel easy and welcoming. Both the and the food were great and very reasonably priced. I’d definitely here again. Met a friend for a birthday brunch. The pub was nicely quiet with just a few tables in so we took a nice spot by a toasty radiator. We chose two meals from the brunch selection and then a dessert and coffee. The were welcoming, polite and friendly. was very good. Everywhere was very clean including the toilets. Would definitely go there again. little at The Bird in Hand whilst visiting family in Maidenhead. Great location just outside of Maidenhead just off the main road for easy access (but far enough away you don’t get intrusive road noise). Lovely rooms, if a little rickety in places, great idea with the fridge included if not a tad too noisy. Good breakfast, food and drinks. Perfect for our with a 2 year old - quiet enough to be relaxing, but bustling enough for an enjoyable stay. We only planned two nights but decided to a third and we had zero hesitation to book another night rather than look elsewhere - the feeling this place gave us was a warm and feel like home. Would definitely come back for another visit. We had a function in the pub and it was a great experience. We had a dedicated function separated from the main pub. The atmosphere both in the pub and in the function are really and the fireplaces give just the perfect place for a cosy dinner. Food was truly amazing. Great portions and quality food from the appetisers throughout the meal. Tagliatelle were cooked to perfection and the sea bass with the lemon sauce was mouthwatering. All through the meal, the sauces were just amazing. All the was really friendly and we had a great night out. I have stayed at The Bird in Hand for a week, dined here dozens of times, and even celebrated my birthday in their private room. I can only recommend it! The food is high-quality, upmarket, and delicious while remaining affordable. The is excellent, with a professional yet friendly team that pays great attention to detail. The spaces are immaculate, the rooms are top-notch, and the large on-site car park is a bonus. Plus, its location on the Bath Road is incredibly convenient. There’s truly nothing to fault, which is why we keep coming back to The Bird in Hand! little find. Would definitely again. Few minor issues. Plug hole in bathroom needed a clean. Wife wouldn’t use the shower. The that checked us in and the same lady again who served us wasn’t the most welcoming. She wasn’t rude just felt like she didn’t really want to be there. The that served us our evening meal was lovely. could have done with a main light as it was quite dark with just lamps. Overall a pleasant and would again, was perfect distance from legoland. Stayed a few nights in a superior room, with and a meal on 2 nights. For the price we were without exception impressed by the quality of every aspect of our stay, including the comfort of the large bed to the quality of the toiletries and tea making facilities in the room. Equally the quality of the food was good, a bit more money and flair was evident in everything. was a bit unusual, no self service, you had to order everything individually, not sure how much was included in the price. were universally good, so we didn't begrudge so much the 10% they put on food and drink bills. Location on the main road made easy access and we heard no road noise from our front bedroom. clean and tidy. Bed too small thought the bed booked was larger. Some of the was poor whilst other members tried very hard. Parking very good. Location is out of the way too far to walk to any other amenities so drive or taxi. But we knew this before booking Breakfast was confusing. First morning not sure what was available. There are no juices cereal fruit yogurt toaster jams to visibly choose from. Nothing was explained that is the confusion ! Stayed for family early Sunday roast dinner- pre booked. was slow and a long wait for meals to arrive. Beef was very good. Chicken was dry. selection of vegetables. Second the menu was fully explained and confusion disappeared. Generally our was relaxing and overall a four out of five. Thank you. We’d like to come back sometime - if you don’t object to our comments !! We had a one night in 5 having booked 2 weeks in advance. We were welcomed by a pleasant member and we were shown to our . We had booked a king size superior - sadly it fell short of expectations. The lighting in the was very dim.The light at the entrance to the did not have a bulb, the bedside light by the window was faulty and the light on the dressing was enormous but gave out no effective light. We were supplied with towels. The bathroom was rather tired and not what we normally expect for superior standard . The bowl of the toilet was filthy and the bottom of the shower screen was not clean. The plug in the sink did not work so the sink could not hold water. The mini fridge was a welcome addition. We enjoyed breakfast, our server was attentive. However, the very small piece of sourdough did not do justice to the delicious poached eggs. Such amazing food. Highly recommend eating there. We had a stay. The was but a bigger duvet would of made the sleep better. Also the fridge in was very noisy but once turned off it was fine. were and attentive. My boyfriend and I booked this for a Valentine's getaway. On arrival, we were greeted by a member of who booked us in and then showed us to our room. We stayed in the windsor suite, on first impressions the looked stunning. 4 poster bed and a big free standing bath. Couldn't fault the look of the room. Unfortunately, we found the bed and pillows a bit hard, and the towels and bedding smelt greasy. I'm not sure if the laundry is allocated next to the kitchen. Also, there was a lot of long black hair in the shower plug that hadn't been cleaned prior to our stay. For the price, I would expect this to be spotless. There were a few stains on the carpet, and the fridge was so noisy it kept on waking me up. Also, I don't think the window shut properly as we could really hear the road noise. Unfortunately I will not be staying here again, which is unfortunate as I couldn't fault the restaurant and staff. place with lots of attention to detail. Rooms were comfy and food was delicious. A couple of issues, no spoons or coffee filters in the and a bit of a lack of attention during but in the main, a really enjoyable time! Would definitely recommend! A really warm welcome by Susie and her team. We had got our dates wrong on the booking. Susie was fantastic and gave us a for us and our dog. The was very and the was great. Excellent food as we had lunch and breakfast. A pub with excellent decor. Really enjoyed our and would highly recommend. We will definitely book again when we are next in the area. Thanks again to everyone at The bird in the hand. Recently visited after not visiting for a while. We had an issue a while ago and the Bird and Hand went above and beyond to rectify; which is the true measure of a business. On our return visit the fire was on and the atmosphere was beautiful. The Sunday roast was absolutely outstanding. was impeccable and Suzy and all of the were so attentive. I will be returning & recommending! My boyfriend and I had an amazing stay. It started with a and warm welcome from reception, which then showed us our room. We were delighted with our room, a very clean environment with a very comfortable bed. Many amenities in the including: tea, coffee, water, milk. Although right next to a road and a garage, we had no problems with noise. We visited a spa in Reading and travelled around 10 minutes to the Inn, in which we were pleased to find so close yet not too close. We also stayed for dinner as well, having had an amazing steak and a pint of the Butcombe Original, we were happy. We would both like to thank the amazing for our relaxing stay. Average food. Terrible service. Having paid £20 before even entering the venue, it was quite the surprise to be ignored by multiple at for nearly 10 minutes. Usually at busy times, to acknowledge with a “be with you in a moment” is absolutely fine, not even this courtesy was extended. It was then over an hour after being seated before we saw any food. Two chicken roasts: dry flavourless meat, very watery gravy, and no sign of bread sauce. On asking for our bill, our deposit hadn’t been deducted. We twice asked for this to be corrected, both times leaving our on as no seemed interested in at this point. Finally, over 45 mins after asking for the bill, we took ourselves up to the bar to pay. It seemed that asking for our deposit deduction was a terrible inconvenience to the lady on the till. We asked for the to be removed (a tough call but deserved) and that seemed to be the last chance of us receiving decent hospitality. We were handed an amended without a word and the member just moved on to something else without saying anything else to us. We were so shocked at this final kick in the teeth that we were speechless. Pure cheek to a deposit and automatic for the shocking hospitality on display. Absolutely will not return; many many better pubs with warm, friendly and decent food in the area.
