Huge that was created by sediment build up many years ago that became so severe that it blocked up the outlet, upon which sand built up on it to leave a beautiful beach. It is very dangerous to swim in the sea or near the lake overflow outlet due to very strong currents. Beautiful and clean but very dangerous. Multiple warning signs state you MUST NOT BATHE or SWIM! The reason being that the slopes rapidly into the sea, the fierce rip currents and drowning. There are no Lifeguards here either. The is a mixture of shingle and pebbles and the contrast between the sea and the freshwater lake on the other side of the Bar is fascinating. Access to the isn't particularly easy either because of the rough paths and steep ramp down to the when approaching from Porthleven or the westernside of the Penrose Estate. This place is absolutely stunning. Empty and nature everywhere. A bit of a climb back up the hill to the car put definitely worth a visit 😊 Fantastic quiet location, we walked from Helston (free car park) all the way down the creek to the sea, across the shingle and back through NT property to the car park. Very nice walk, friendly people not too busy, Loe Bar a nice place to stop for some lunch and drink before walking back. Beautiful, peaceful and busy! Lots of visitors/hikers/dog walkers love this place as I do! So don't expect to be alone! But there is plenty of room as this is a large area with miles of walks, parking from various points - just use Google maps! Don't attempt swimming in the sea side of the bar as it is extremely dangerous, I don't know about the pool side, although it is very deep. Lovely beach, on Saturday afternoon we were there almost alone. Perfect if you look for a quiet place away from crowds. Unfortunately it’s not sandy, but mostly small rocks under your feet, so bring comfortable shoes. In my opinion this is the most beautiful in Cornwall, sea on side and Cornwall's largest freshwater lake on other. The is 750 yards away from the car park. Parking is free. Perfect for dogs to swim in the lake. Strange place! One side there’s a long stretch of sand and the sea (no swimming signs everywhere due to riptides) then you turn around and there’s a lake! Lovely little spot to drink in the views and sun but not much else to do here. No facilities, off the beaten track.
