What a brilliant little railway this really is. The train ride was great and staff were absolutely brilliant. They were all very friendly and informative too. I really hope they manage to extend to Helston like planned. We first visited 12 years ago when it was a ten min trip on a brake van and hunter engine. Came back to see what had changed…. the trip is now a little longer in an actual carriage but the compartment we were in with our dog was thick with cobwebs, a good cleaning is needed. Also can be difficult to find if you don’t know where it is as no easily visible signposting. I discovered this place completely by accident. I saw railway carriages serving cream tea ( a big favourite of My Wife's), So would have gone anyway. Once I looked further they do train rides of about 2 miles on a vintage train. Absolutely brilliant. The rude was nostalgic, the volunteers were wonderful & knowledgeable. The cream tea was amazing too. I had a bacon baguette which was equally as tasty. Highly recommend a trip if you're in Cornwall. Great heritage, our teen boys loved it,and our cat also, noisy but needles to say would go again.Great experience and hats off to volunteers for the work that they do,thank you ladies and gents, ypu are doing a tremendous job. We spent a delightful couple of hours with the volunteers and workers of the Helston Railway. Extremely friendly and helpful staff. We were met at the entrance by a lovely, chatty young man who had a great deal of knowledge about the place and the trains. He welcomed us admirably. The train ride was fun even though it was, through no fault of their own, half the distance (we only paid half the price) and my husband rode on the engine and at 67 years of age became an excited small child again blowing the whistle twice! Many thanks. Wishing your enterprise all the best for the future. A beautiful heritage railway. We were greeted in and informed of a closure on the line so we were charged half price for our ride. The children had a ride with the driver which they absolute LOVED!! Both of them loved tooting the horn at the front. A wonderful morning out for all ages with plenty of interesting history Pretty hopeless really. Whilst checking their timings for a trip the next day I spotted on their website, an appeal for a stall (sales/car boot type tent) to help them with an event. I have such a fairly costly item so emailed the two people named on their site using the email addresses provided, and offered it to them on a loan basis which would probably have ended up as a donation. We visited the railway next day. A diesel shunter - disappointing, and after a mile or so the passengers were shepherded onto a bridge to look at nothing in particular. Foreign tourists were looking confused. I received no response to the emails I sent about my offer. No courtesy, no 'thanks but no thanks' - nothing. I also received no response when a short time later, I withdrew my offer, this time using the contact page on their site. It seems to me that whilst the enthusiasm of the on-site volunteers has to be commended, they do need effective management. When they receive and ignore free offers they are spurning opportunities to get people involved. That's no way to build a business. Always enjoy a trip to Helston railway. Friendly staff, nice little cafe and shop.
