I will try to be brief and simple in this review to keep to the point and avoid a long story. We have used ESF, mainly in the Avoriaz location, for our daughters since Club Piou Piou. Up until this year I have to say that we have generally been satisfied with the school, and instructors, hence the 2 stars and not lower. This year, it was very unsatisfactory; so much so that after 2 half days of we removed our daughter from the school (despite already paying for 6 half days), and took her on the mountains ourselves. We did not get any refund for missed days, but felt the situation was so untenable that we had no real choice. I'll set it out in bullet points below: 1) First day, despite booking in English, we watched for the first 25 minutes as the instructors spoke almost solely French. I had to shout from the sidelines the English translations so that my daughter would understand as they spoke some instructions and split the groups by age. We couldn't continue this approach obviously throughout the lessons. 2) At the end of the first day, our Daugher was unhappy and told us that the rest of her group were all French and so the instructions were given in French except for a few unkind remarks, such as the Instructor telling her she was too slow and not believing she had completed the previous course, snowflake, also granted by ESF Avoriaz. 3) On the second day, we struggled to find her group at the start point and I asked one of the leads for help. I frankly have never been spoken to so rudely as the comments that were made back to me by her. 4) At the end of the second day we collected our Daughter, who could barely maintain her composure. She told us that she had got separated from the group in the foggy conditions and had gotten scared and had been asking strangers for help to find them. When she met back up with her group she told us that she had been shouted at again for being too slow. 5) Our child was so worried to go back on the third day and was visibly shaken and upset that there was no way we could drop her off again and we decided to skip these classes for the rest of the week. With all of the above in mind, I will never use ESF again. I put my daughter Ivanna (5yrs old) for a 5 day course who never skied before and by the end of the week she was going to the beginners piste and the chairlifts. I’m very happy with the teachers and the attention they give to the children, making sure they are safe. Also I bought the meals (kids club) for her and although she is a picky eater she loved all meals. Thank you ESF enfants Great snowshoe experience with our knowledgeable ESF monitor. We stopped at different view point to hear the stories explained by a local. It lasted about 2hours 1/2, snowshoe and poles are supplied. My son attended the 3 star programme with Laurent, he has made a big improvement in his skiing and really enjoyed the lessons. Laurent was friendly & encouraging. Highly recommend ESF. Progressing by myself from snow plough to parallel skiing in a short time frame I decided to take a lesson to get the basic technique right. I had the pleasure to have my 2hr private lesson with Oceane. After going down from the meeting point on plateau towards prodains express she decided to take me up to bleue d’ arare which is quite a challenging slope with only three days of ski experience. It was challenging in the beginning but she gave me the confidence and tips to go down safely. By the end of the two hour lesson I could feel I was less tense and controlling my speed on steeper slopes a lot better but more important enjoy going down the slopes much more. Thanks Oceane and ESF! Guillaume at Avoriaz ESF is a great teacher. I had the last class in April 2025 and his lesson was very customized and easy to follow. I recommend ESF! I’ve loved my skiing classes with ESF Avoriaz. Our teacher Fred really helped me to surpass myself and thanks to him I’ve learned new techniques and have been skiing the slopes I’d never thought of doing before.
