According to historians, "Akra" is an ancient Byzantine fortress. It has sunk in the water since the 5th century BC, due to the increase in the sea level,During the great Avar invasion in 584 the was burned. It was not until the 11th century that life near the port tower was renewed in the neighbourhood that was sunk. A great place on the Black sea coast to watch the sunset away from the crowds. You can either walk or drive right next to the fort on the dirt road. During the summer the sun sets above the Burgas skyline. An astonishing view at this fortress, but at a first sight it seemed like a cape. We parked close to the cape and there was a small path which is leading you to the at the cape. The view was Brilliant, especially when I brought my zoomer so that I could see the beautiful Black Sea and the coastal of Bulgaria at a high point. Very interesting that the was build underground, which could date back to the 1st en 2nd World War where soldiers where hidden to shoot from the fortress. Please notice that the is very poor that is leading you here with your vehicle, because it is just a dirt road, so if you have a motorcycle, moped or even like a quad, then it's much better. We came here with a RV camper so it was though, but definitely worth it! 1.5km of country that is difficult to make with a low car. We left the car middle way and went by foot. The is not taken care of and there are lots of bushes. We've seen some interesting things inside it. It's not recommended to enter because it seems dangerous. If you're willing to risk, you will need a flashlight. The is a relatively small historical site, unfortunately not decently supported by the local Municipality. Nevertheless, it is worth the trip because of the spectacular sights on the way (especially when taking a walk to get there). If you visit during the summer, I recommend going there at sunset time because it gets burning hot during the day. There is a dirt to the site, passable with a car, but I would recommend to walk the road. The cape itself is a beautiful place where you can enjoy the scenery. Unfortunately, the old is nowhere to be seen hidden in weeds and bushes, as the place is apparently neglected for quite a long time. However, there are some abandoned old (WW2 perhaps) military structures and a monument of navy heroes. It is worthy visiting the place even in the autumn. Interesting place to reach via sea, it is quite wild place. There is one restaurant which only works if you call in advance (don’t know how long in advance). No WC there and is rocky when you reach the shore. Good for swimming and exploring. The sea there is pretty calm so it is a pleasure to swim. Put shoes for swimming to protect you from the rocks. It is very peaceful as it is not touristic place. If you go during weekends, there will be more boats and yachts there. No tickets needed for the as you can visit for free. It is not that big. Lots of people with yachts, jets, motor boats. You could see the mountain across. There is a rope that helps you climb to the fortress- it’s steep so be careful.
