The ruins date back to the 1300s and were once home to Countess Loretta von Sponheim, who some say inspired the legend of Rapunzel. Walking through the old stone walls and towers feels like stepping back in time. The views from the hill are beautiful, surrounded by forest and history. Definitely worth a stop if you love medieval castles or quiet off-the-beaten-path spots! Very nice castle, lots of information in English. Tower was closed though which was a pity, there is probably a great view from the top. Nice hike and very serene place. It's just a small burg to explore. The only drawback is closed door to the donjon, so you can’t get to the top of the castle.
