The Cottage In The Wood

Keswick, United Kingdom Fine dining restaurant

One of the Best Places To Visits in Thornthwaite Top-rated.online cuts through the clutter, highlighting only the reviews that are most helpful, earn the most likes, or come from the most active contributors. 15th October. Our overnight room in 'Ash' including a seven course taster menu. A very easy review really & the same as many who have acknowledged the location, hotel, all staff and of course the beautiful culinary art work presented during each service and complimented with a flight of wine. A short drive from our home in Cumbria, through parts of Whinlatter forest and arriving at the beautiful 'Cottage in the wood'. Checked in at 4pm and met with a warm welcome, escorted to our beautiful room and guided through the various elements of 'green' environmental use of tea, coffee etc. Cocktails, coffee and beautifully prepared cake in the lovely, homely & informal lounge. Evening meal at 6.30 in the conservatory overlooking the forest, river and distant Cumbrian fells (& the regular red squirrel). Each meal supported by information relevant to the cooking method, the produce and the wine complementing each course. Amazing food as you would expect with a renowned chef. Amazing staff. All very happy, warm, helpful, attentive and with a good knowledge of food, drinks and of course the local area. Looking forward to returning. This was our fourth visit to the Cottage, but the first since Jack and Beth have taken over. We booked an overnight stay with tasting menu and stayed in "Larch", which had just been refurbished. The decor in the room and in the public areas was a delight. The carefully considered colours and fabrics were beautiful. Environmental considerations have been made in all areas. After checking in, we were treated to a complimentary afternoon tea and very moreish spiced chocolate cake. The tasting menu and wine flight were superb. All couses, and the bread, were so full of flavour and beautifully presented. Each wine complimented the food very well. After a comfortable nights sleep, the breakfast too was excellent, and it was wonderful to be able.to sit and watch the red squirrels and local birds feeding right outside the windows. For such a fabulous location, wonderful food and comfortable surroundings, not to mention all the staff who were all so friendly and helpful, the value for money of the overnight break in a cottage room is really good and well worth a visit. We wish Jack, Beth and all the team congratulations and hope that they have a great future at the Cottage in the woods. We will be back. One of the best meals I've ever eaten. Superb food, warm and friendly service, interesting quirky minimalist decor. I couldn't fault it. I sat with a foolish grin on my face as the dishes kept coming and surprising and delighting me, everyone packed with beautifully balanced flavours. I've eaten in more lauded places that were nothing like as good as this. I hope they acheive the success that such a well rounded experience deserves.
