This was a beautiful building and our room was very comfortable. Dinner and breakfast were both delicious. Host went out of his way to help us with some baggage problems. Excellent service. After our first day on the via podiensis this was a great stopover. Charming hosts, great food in tastefully renovated farm buildings. Highly recommended In a beautiful part of France, we were very disappointed with this stay. The room we stayed in was facing the road and on the first floor, and besides being noisy from traffic, we also had the upstairs room where other guests were staying walking around loudly in the middle of the night. There was a problem with the plumbing and a cistern kept refilling continuously all night long. As we were walking quite a distance the next day, it was very annoying to be kept awake during the early hours of the morning. The bed was uncomfortable, and the pillows needed replacing. The tariff for this stay for a Gite was also questionable - the 70 euros per person I agreed to at the time of booking, thinking we were getting a more comfortable stay rather than the normal shared accommodation for myself and my husband which is usually on offer walking the Camino. My friend, who was walking with us had a beautiful room, and a very pleasant stay for 50 euros all up including her half board. Ours cost in the end over $300 Australian. We were also charge over 11 euros each for a lunch that was made up of the previous nights salad, and a small mandarin. Most disappointing. Friendly staff who speak good English. Great dinner and breakfast. Plus the town is super quiet so we got some good sleep. I am a pilgrim on the Via Podiensis segment of the Camino de Santiago de Compostela. I arrived at the Auberge La Barbelotte tired and thirsty after a beautiful day on the Chemin St Jacques. Both were addressed immediately by my kind host. I feel absolutely blessed to have stayed here. Everything about this historic home and its ancient buildings is marvelous. Everything about its owners and the Auberge is superb. My room is exceptionally comfortably, clean and well designed. I’ve already tested the bed with a four hour nap. Five stars! At our magnificent dinner, I experienced cuisine that would make any Michelin chef jealous. My two French companions and I loved it and felt very pampered. Our hosts’ hospitality was exceptional. I wish every night on the Camino could be spent here. As a traveler I could ask for nothing more. If you are trekking the Camino or just visiting the spectacular Le Puy en Velay region, this should be your home away from home.
