One of the most creative memorials to Croatian War of Independence (Homeland War). On June 27h 1991., one of many tanks of Yugoslav Army (JNA) ran over old red Fiat (In Croatia we call it Fićo) an smashed it like it is made of paper. The video was viral on that day in news around Croatia and the world. After the war, simbolically Osijek has risen the monument showing that same Red Fićo running over and crushing JNA tank. Osijek was never taken. Croatia defended itself from Serbian agression. That is what that represents. The Red Fico, a showcase of indomitable human will, the moment someone stopped tanks with a red Fiat! A true legend of the war that is now a fun and cool monument to visit! 😄 Moje prvé auto🙂👍 white Fico Worth taking a walk to if you’re in the city. Culturally significant art installation Just a great memorial Fascinating monument of one of the most memorable Croatian War of Independence scenes. Excellent. Only wished that more info on explaining the event and snapshot of tank running over "fico" is displayed. It is one of the most important media event during the war. Die Gedenkstätte von dem Krieg damals, ist einen Besuch wert. Nek se zna! Very powerful display. When a personal story meets History. A very interesting historical monument from war. There is additional meaning. There is video footage from the war time at which the tank run over the same small car at the same place of the monument. A nice tribute to a more modern day David and Goliath. It's a reminder of some unpleasant past. In some sense, a David and Goliath story. Also, it's an inspiration to the local people of Osijek.
