Very pleasant trail to with a series of railway remnants along the way. Gradient is mostly upwards starting from Keswick. Felt like the longest 5km I’ve ever walked though (!). Cyclists zip up and down there at a fair clip and can be a bit annoying. Coffee shop in Threlkeld serves hearty food and good coffee. Nice easy into Threlkeld. It starts off a bit dull at the Keswick end, but once out in the open, it's much nicer. River Greata is beautiful, and the surrounding hills are magnificent on a sunny day. Bear in mind that if you want to make it to the pubs in Threlkeld, it's about another km walk. We walked back via Castlerigg Stone Circle which is probably a nicer walk, albeit mostly on quiet roads (with hills) with a few field sections. Because it's higher up, the views on both sides are visible and on a fine day, make this detour, well worth the extra effort. The community coffee shop in Threlkeld looked amazing & I'd highly recommend you go there if it's a hot drink you're after. The views from their terrace are fab & the place had a nice village vibe. We opted for beer in a pub however so didn't get to enjoy the coffee on this occasion. 😉 Very easy and pleasant walk, flat terrain. This is one of the prettiest walks I’ve been on. There is lots of information along the regarding the railway and floods etc. lovely and clean. Suitable for all ages. Bikes or walkers. Young or old. They’ve done a great job with this. Easy to push a pram along and suitable for wheelchair users too. Lovely accessible in some really nice countryside. Cafe at Threlkeld worth extending the by 500m to visit as well. Fantastic from Keswick to Threlkeld along the old railway route pity there are no toilets on the way. Threlkeld nice little place. Great coffee shop in Threlkeld to get some refreshment. If you don't want to back there are buses £2 into Keswick, the stop is very close to the coffee shop. Beautiful scenic walk. Very easy, flat and plenty of view points of the river. Well worth a go Interesting reading the periodic information boards detailing the building of and uses of the railway before it eventually closed ans eventually turned into a lovely walkway/cycleway. Also, details of destruction caused by storm Desmond in 2015 and subsequent expensive restoration and bridge rebuilds. An excellent leisurely walk.
