Lovely cake! Simple eatery with tasty food. We stopped here as a midway point on our drive around Derwent Water. We were told by another traveller to try the ginger cake, warmed with ice cream and maple drizzle. I also ordered some tea and hot chocolate. It was all delicious! They had a nice menu in addition to the cakes. There are specific times for serving breakfast (10-11:45), lunch (12-3), and they close promptly at 5. My kids also enjoyed a splash in the river just round the corner. How ever great this place is will always be over shadowed by the amazing peak or fell mountain what ever they call them here right in front of the village really beautiful and majestic. Leaves village in awe makes it sort of quiet and hushed . Had a flat white outside on the bench looking at the pike and talking in whispers like we were in a library. My friends had pot of tea for two and managed seven cups so they were pleased as punch as worked a few pence a cup . Could brush on the friendlyness in the cafe the only draw back on a lovely experience We had lunch here today. Very helpful staff and food was lovely. Great coffee too. In a beautiful location what more could you ask for. Highly recommended a visit. A side note parking is very very limited. We didn't think this cafe would be open on a Tuesday (I think we must have seen some out of date opening hours) so when we walked down past it and it was open we were happy to try it. Sitting out on the benches in the sunshine with a superb bit of cake and excellent coffee was the first visit and on the way back we enjoyed really good ice creams. The other food that came out looked really good too and impressed they sold beer and wine too. Something for everyone. We are outside because it was a lovely day, and we wanted to stay with our bikes. We had cakes and tea/coffee. The tea came with a pot of hot water, which you don't often get these days. The cakes were fantastic, I had lemon drizzle and gooseberry and my husband crunchie cake. We will pop in again when we cycle round Derwentwater. There is one toilet. Perfect place to start or end a hike. Really tasty food at fair prices. Service couldn’t be friendlier. Re-review of The Grange Café If it hadn’t been for the owner’s thoughtful reply to my last review, I probably wouldn’t have returned—mainly because of the “No Dogs” sign. I’m pleased to say that dogs are allowed inside long enough to place an order, just not to sit indoors. Given the café’s limited space, that’s completely understandable. The outdoor seating area is lovely, with a welcoming atmosphere. Staff were kind, attentive, and genuinely helpful. That said, I do wonder how much custom they miss from solo travellers with dogs who, seeing the sign, simply walk away. A clearer sign explaining the policy might help both customers and the business. As for the food—absolutely top-notch. It tastes fresh and seems to be locally sourced, which is always a bonus. Now that I know the dog policy, I’ll definitely be returning. There’s a genius in the kitchen here and friendly service. My tuna sandwich was delicious and my daughter’s panini was amazing. The brownies were also amongst the best I’ve tasted. Highly recommended! Great little place in a fantastic setting. My panini was outstanding, the coffee was excellent and the lady serving us was super cheerful. We’ll be back. Not a walker friendly experience. Sign up suggesting ‘walkers cafe’ when in fact I was made to sit outside . After hiking in torrential rain from Langdale (4 hours) I was made to sit outside in the cold with a cuppa. Not the Lakeland attitude that makes the area so welcoming. Absolutely fantastic!
