We had a terrific Sunday roast here. Absolutely delicious beef, in a cosy dog-friendly room with a beautiful fireplace. Very nice Beautiful little spot tucked away in Keswick. We took shelter from Storm Amy and were pleasantly surprised!! It has really cosy areas and a beautifully designed restaurant. The food was so well curated. The flavours were incredible and inspired and the presentation could not be faulted. Service was great :) We had the hen of the woods, fishcake + cured trout starters. Delicious !! Would come again !!! Stopped here for some Dinner and a few Beers whilst camping nearby. Given that I visited in August it was unsurprisingly busy with young staff trying their hardest to keep up with the tables. I did witness a couple of tables that complained about how long their food was taking. But I had no issues with my experience. The place is an old country pub that has turned itself into more of a restaurant pub than traditional pub. Whilst I couldn't fault the food, I would say it's overpriced and the menu is quite limited. At nearly £30 for a Burger and Chips with a pint of Beer this seems expensive. Although I could not fault the quality. On this occasion I was travelling alone and would have been happy with a more basic affair but as this was the only place nearby, it was more practical. This place is nice for a couple or a family, but if it's a more traditional and grounded 'pub with grub' you're after then this is not it. Outstanding in so many ways We stayed for 5 nights and it was one of those rare places that truly stays with you. The staff went above and beyond to make us feel at home: warm, professional, and offering impeccable service. The chefs clearly take great pride in their work. We were welcomed with homemade cookies and I even got to try some of their handmade chocolates during dinner. A beautiful cooked breakfast was included with our stay each morning and it was a real highlight, delicious and thoughtfully prepared. As a vegetarian, I’m used to limited options but not here. The variety and creativity were impressive. We ate dinner here on three nights because the whole family loved the food, the service, and the atmosphere. The setting is beautiful, with stunning scenery and the rooms were serviced daily. On our last day I was stuck for how to get home and the manager kindly gave my son and me a lift to the bus station, something I truly appreciated. Absolutely loved our stay. Fond memories for the whole family. Highly recommend and will definitely return. Lovely quiet location, and an old but tastefully-decorated building. We had a two-courser, me with the short rib & brisket burger, my partner with pan fried bass with pasta and pickled cauliflower, and we shared a sticky toffee pudding. The food was slightly on the pricey side but nicely cooked, well-presented and very tasty, so few grumbles here 👌🏻 We absolutely loved our stay at this beautiful inn. All of the staff looked after us so well. Nothing was too much trouble. The food and wine were absolutely gorgeous and our room was perfect. The location is great for local walks and a short distance from the Keswick Launch. We really can’t wait to return. Me and my mum stayed here for the night and it was so lovely! The room was so cosy, the food was AMAZING (especially the pumpkin and squash risotto!!!) and the staff were so so so kind and welcoming! The whole stay was lovely and I wanted to put a review on just to highlight how amazing the staff were, and that the Swinside should be very proud of their team. Definitely will be back! Let me tell you, when you say you're using a Picanha cut of beef for your Sunday lunch, that set's a high expectation. And let me tell you, it hit those expectations. Unbelievable 'hen of the woods' starter followed by one of the best put together beef Sunday lunches I've had. All wrapped up in a cozy pub while wind and rain battered the outside. Note to fellow tall humans, the ceilings are a tad low, but this just adds to the cozy nature of the pub. Would recommend travelling in from the north end of Derwentwater, not from the south end as the roads are bit narrow.
