There was a limited choice at the time we arrived but the portions were copious and very good value for money. The service at the bar countr was fast and efficient. The main restaurant was open at the time but we were not that hungary for a full meal. Place ok for side if road cafe, menu del day, over priced and they don't taste into consideration any drinks you've had whilst waiting for the table l, then we ordered a Bootle if wine instead of 3 glasses and got charged for the bottle. ..didn't really care when I questioned it, good job we won't be going back I’ll be honest, I came to write a somewhat negative review. Not out of spite for a bad experience but to be helpful to what other people can expect when dining here. What I did not expect was the absolutely genius responses to the negative reviews from the owner of the establishment. That alone was entertaining enough to make me bite my tongue a little bit and actually regretting not having met the man in question to shake his hand to congratulate him on his witty responses because they were done a lot more tasteful than the food we experienced. First I want to comment on this idea of critiquing food that has been served to you at the establishment. You never know who they are, what kind of day they have had, what their manners are not to mention what might show up hidden inside the food when returned to the table or even what would come out of that conversation off critique. So as the owner it’s easy to say that clients should complain but when you have children, you’ve been driving the whole day and you don’t wanna start a whole argument with someone whom you probably will never see you again... it’s hard to be as honest as you would actually want to be in an ideal situation. case in point, I once returned what was supposed to be a cooked salmon because it was smoked but the chef insisted that it only taste tastes smoked because the way it’s cut. So, yeah. It’s not always easy to be honest. That said, the food at El Coto wasn’t good. It wasn’t great but it wasn’t awful but it was certainly really greasy, even somehow the Caesar salad left a greasy after taste, which is the first time I can say I’ve experienced that from ordering a salad. In the other dishes, the fries were very uneven cooked, some nice and crunchy whereas some were soft and soggy (incorrect oil temperature?) . The croquetas were decent but I’ve never eaten fluffy croquetas, usually they are more dense and packing a bit of a bite, these were very different but tasted good. The Capocho had a interesting although not very pleasant combination of textures where most of it was easy to bite through and then one of the layers was, well I had to pick it up by hand and bite it off. It was really tough. I know that what we ordered was fried but I have never walked away with such an oversaturated feeling. Frying in oil is a bit of an art form that requires consistent and correct temperatures to avoid absorption of the oil into the food and I’m guessing this is where it fell short. Great friendly waiter Unfortunately we didn't have time to eat but looked nice and the place was very clean Stopped for a coffee and breakfast typical Spanish side of the road restaurant these are usually good value and excellent Nothing wrong but I did feel the price was a bit high.. You here ex pats complain they get charged more...I live in Spain and very rare do I feel this but on this occasion I did Amazing food, authentic , try the menu of the day. Great staff, gracias not recommended. diego treats clients very badly. they force you to buy bread, they wont allow you to share a meal, what is this?
