Beautiful church Brilliant preserved Abbey near the village of Marienmünster, halfway between Detmold and Höxter. It's conveniently next to a good road and has good parking or bus facilities as well as well maintained hiking trails, one of which leads to a nice viewing tower a few Kilometres walk away. The Abbey itself is a collection of buildings around the main Church. The buildings have been preserved for the most part, with some modernised (the concert hall being the most prominent) but the aura has been kept and it remains picturesque. There is a small garden area that visitors can walk through and a bee keeping area. There's a restaurant occupying one of the old buildings with a beer garden that seemed reasonable, although I've never had anything there. It's possible to spend an hour or two taking in the atmosphere and walking through. When I visited we had the entire place to ourselves, but even in the summer not many tourists visit, making it a great place to spend some time away from crowds. I'd absolutely recommend visiting this delightful abbey for a pleasant, calming day. The abbey church of st Marienmünster is from the outside a Romanesque building. The interior is baroque. Around the church there are a garden and several buildings. Parking is easy. There are clean toilets. Take a walk on the premises and also take a look at and when open in the Besucherszentrum Forum Abtei.
