The friendly collected our charge for the overnight stay and after eating, we are now falling asleep to the sound of the running water. PS the are clean and well provisioned except that there is no toilet paper. Perhaps this is not used in France, I don't know, but the wise camper will take such items with them! A charming campsite in close proximity to the and quiet town. We arrived at about 8pm unannounced and were met by two very friendly ladies, charging us next to nothing for the night (cash only). This was a stop-over en route back to Calais. The campsite is and picturesque, with dated but incredibly clean and powerful washing facilities. A stream runs along the edge of the campsite - we had a lovely evening stargazing with the gentle sounds of this in the background. A really lovely place to stay in the middle of the gorgeous French countryside on our journey back to the UK. Municipal Camping Le Vieux Moulin site at Arc-en-Barrois 52210 south west of Chaumont. Campsite one side with little stream running either side of the camping ground, great for paddling in places (some non intrusive noise from D3) and an Aire on grassed areas in the main car park with two electric car chargers. Clean (bring your own loo paper) including washing machine. No reception; two lovely visit twice a day to clean the and collect payment (cash only €17.80 per night with electric when we stayed). Easy walking distance to village with lovely square including private chateau. supermarket, restaurant boulangerie/patisserie opened until late evening with outside seating as picture. Sweet little municipal campsite (around 30 spots in the main area with a kind of overflow field next to the washrooms). Encircled by a very pleasant stream. Municipal tennis courts next door. Washrooms are simple and clean, with water hotter than most campsites, with two showers in each. Two washing machines are on site, plus a pizza machine. A shame there are no bins near the wash area, but on the plus side there are communal herbs in pots 😍 Run by two extremely kind and very friendly women who even loaned us an extension cable and power supply connector so we could use the electricity. Thank you! Highly recommended. ❤️ For other facilities: there's a boulangerie, plus a newsagent/gift shop that sells some local maps. Strangely there were no walking or cycling maps at all in the Office de Tourisme, even though this village is supposed to be the centre of the Parc National de Forêts. There are also a supermarket in the village and two restaurants (one in the hotel, and one other, see below), but good luck getting a table in either. The hotel prioritises its overnight guests and the "Coq d'Argent" has schizophrenic opening hours (it says 20:00 to 21:30 online, but a sign in the window says last orders at 20:00) and sadly the lady running it is quite rude and supercilious. 🙄 I recommend eating in L'Aujon, Chateauvillain, about 15 minutes away, where the gentleman is really welcoming and serves until past 22:00. The nearby Lac de la Mouche is very natural and offers shady banks for picnicking and swimming. The historic walled town of Langres is also a great day out. Love this camp. We always stay over the night when travelling from the UK. It’s our first destination 👍 There is always space to pitch a tent. The 2 who come to collect the money are very friendly. What a lovely little site, set between two streams. The site was beautifully kept and the were freshly painted and spotless. Lovely hot showers where you don't have to keep pressing a button every 20 seconds to get water 👌🏻 Two came round in the evening to collect payment. €18 per night with electric hook up was a bargain for this little gem Very nice campsite for the money. There are many different birds who fly over the stream that runs past the large pitches. There's a pizza machine for when you don't feel like cooking!! The village and surrounding area are well worth visiting with signposted walks and other interesting sites to see. They could really improve on placing several bins for different kinds of waste, now it's just one bin for plastic, paper and general waste. Camping here right now, brilliant spot. Electricity, good facilities, a nice running river. And the town is super nice. The come to collect the fees around 7pm, and you’ll need cash. Very friendly and fun.
