Very well laid out presentation of Seamus Healy's life, man and boy, a famous literary son of Ulster. Very helpful staff and good meals and snacks from the café. Amazing resource and wonderful experience to hear Seamus Heaney reading so much of his own work. Not to be missed but allow a minimum of 2 1/2 to 3 hrs. We were there 3 hrs and didn't listen to all his recordings. Would definitely go back. Lovely staff as well - helpful and knowledgeable. I studied Heaney at A level and this is a fascinating exhibition, telling his life story, showcasing his work and capturing his heart. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone interested in poetry, history, art or Heaney himself. Beautiful place! I believe that this should be a place for all schools and local colleges to visit! It even has a brilliant library showcasing his work! Popped in for a team breakfast. Have been a couple of times to hear writers speak in The Helicon. Staff are very friendly and helpful. The Helicon is a great wee performance space which does give an intimacy with the audience and whoever is speaking. The visitors centre is a good experience in itself as well which is interesting to go around before hearing the writers. Nice, small coffee shop as well. Passionate about the poet, I can only say that this is a nice addition to the learning of his life and work. The museum is nicely done and well organized and offers multisensory ways to engage with what exposed This is a must visit museum if you are in Derry. There are allot of his great poems to listen to and you can learn about the the life and the rural area where Seamus Heaney grew up. The cafe is nice and relaxing and the food was great. The staff were really friendly and there was great customer service. There is also a fun place for the kids to learn. Immersive experience in the words of Seamus Heaney. Well worth a visit. Allow plenty of time! Driven by Bellaghy several times and finally found time to visit the home place. Brilliant experience- if you don’t know his work it’s an education but if you do it’s an absolute treat. Excellent use of old photos and interactive exhibits and great for all ages. The staff are welcoming and informative and really make the visit. And by the way, they have an excellent cafe as well.
