We thoroughly enjoyed our guided tour of the house (approx 1hr 15 mins). Gardens were pleasant as well. As is common with a fair few Historic Houses properties, they don't like photos taken of the interior Lovely gardens to explore, path is pebbles so not practical for manual wheelchairs. There is plenty of parking. A cafe gift shop that sells their famous marmalade. Accessible WC located outside. I walked here and was disappointed to be sent across from the fields on to the very busy road when the path was closed to the public at the gate . There was a sign at the main entrance saying no cycling. I had soup and a roll and a coffee for 9 pounds something. It was very nice but served in a paper cup and wooden spoon 😔 Not a welcoming place and it was empty at 12 30 when I got there . The plants for sale in the courtyard had seen better days . Cld not recommended a visit but a nice walk to get there apart from the road . Really enjoyed our guided tour today. House was very interesting and the tour guide was very knowledgeable. Extensive grounds and gardens to walk around also. There is a tearoom which also sells marmalades and chutneys made on site. Highly recommend a visit. Unspoiled country home. Lots of history, guided tours of the house very informative, hosted by a delightful lady. Gardens tended but plants left to naturally mingle. Lots of butterflies enjoying the protection of the walled garden. Plenty of seating to enjoy the plants and absorb the atmosphere. Lovely rustic tea room selling award winning marmalades. Really enjoyed our visit. Lovely place to visit the gardens were lovely to walk round flowers in full bloom We didn't get in the house but looked lovely from outside Walking back to the car we saw deers in the field. Bought the marmalade too. Stunning house and grounds! We walked here following the Dalemain loop and had a brilliant afternoon! We visited Dalemain gardens 40 years ago. Today, we visited both house and garden. Our guide Sue was an excellent. First Class guide who gave us a warm welcome and, as soon as she began the tour, had us enthralled. Her knowledge of the families who have owned the estate was detailed and interesting with just the right amount of information which we could follow. Her enthusiasm, sense of humour, and love of the very bones of this charming family home makes her a great asset to the family at Dalemain. I say that without hesitation. I have been guide at Rode Hall in Cheshire for 25 years and find some guided tours can be rather dull and the information delivered with little or no light, personal interest or joy in the subject.
