The Marais de l'Etournel is a (recently remodelled) reserve that consists of a number of man-made lakes (one-time gravel pits) that sit beside the Rhône. It is an important stopping off point for migratory birds as well as home to a number of beavers. It can be busy during the summer when people flock there to swim (which strictly speaking isn't allowed) and/or fish (which is, although it's regulated) but it's pretty easy to avoid the crowds and delight in its (mostly; the frogs and the nightingales make a bit of a racket!) peaceful tranquility.
