Excellent place to visit, if you are coming to the island this centre is modern and interesting, especially good for children. The video at the start makes you want to go and buy a telescope imediately highly recommended. Toilets but no restaurant yet, but you can get a coffee or bar of chocolate. Excellent facilities, very interactive, worth watching the video too, great for groups and if you arrange it with the cafeteria if could be great for a birthday party. Good mix of astronomy and volcanic explanations. Lots to walk around and see and some excellent viewing platforms that you can see all the way down to the sea on a clear day. What a drive to get to this fantastic spot; the hire car struggled up the steep inclines, as did we mentally. We had a marvellous time driving up from the west side, with a short visit to the visitor centre and a stunning descent through the cloud-filled tree surroundings! Great view from the top. The tour we went on was very much a drive, though, so we really didn't get the full benefit of the site. We did see a number of videos that explained the background to the observatory, but that was it. If you want to visit the glass panel section you have to pay extra We loved the museum at the visitor center! It has a lot of information and you can learn a lot with the interactive stations! I loved the introductory movie. Make sure to drive up a bit to see the telescopes in real life and then the view from the viewpoint into the caldera! Wow what a fantastic place to learn about the astrology and astrophysics. So clean, modern and really good interactive elements with a variety of technologies to help you learn. There was a group of young children in when we visited and they all seemed to be very engaged with the exhibits, as did the adults. We watched the video too, it was 8 mins long but really informative. I don't know how much the entrance fee was as this was paid as part of our excursion but I'd say it would be well worth it. Gives a decent overview of the basic physics, from astronomy to optics. The exhibition is modern, interactive and bilingual (Spanish and English).
