Authentic walled town that has lots of history,as tourism seems to be a main stat of this place it gets very busy and large vehicles should avoid driving through, tourist buses are the main issue.. A very nice gem in the wetlands of Marennes. Nice historical town with an interesting and pleasant protection wall. A walk on the wall and in the city are very pleasant for an hour or two. You can spend more time if you engage in shopping or wining and dining. Lovely little pace to visit. Beautiful spot for a visit. Beautiful artisan shops. Brouage is an ancient town surrounded by its ramparts. Slowly being restored, it's amazing to walk along it's cobbled streets or admire the fabulous views from the top of its ramparts. Lots of restaurants to choose from and quaint shops to visit. We spent a very relaxing and enjoyable afternoon here. The shops are a must for art and jewellery. Walking along the ramparts are a good way to spend an afternoon. Head into the citadel to see a church dedicated to the founder of Quebec. Nice place! A little village clustered inside some old city walls. A lot of history. We drove passed and stopped without knowing what will be there. Glad we stopped and took the time to walk around the city walls. Definitely worth the stop. It's a really nice city to visit even more if your Quebecois because of the history of this place, family friendly, you'll be able to visit all of it in around 3-4 hours.
