This perspective is really a must-see I went to Saumur to a friend, and she told me she would take me somewhere I had never seen before—and she was right! I was lucky to the amazing Troglodyte Caves, ancient dwellings carved into the rocks centuries ago. My friend mentioned that many of these are still owned by the descendants of the original families who lived there. Some have even been converted into hotels and unique stays. The area is surrounded by beautiful vineyards. It was my first time visiting one, and I even got to pluck and eat grapes straight from the vines! Some of the stays around the also offer activities like trekking and cycling through the village, which makes exploring even more enjoyable. The whole place is stunning. It’s worth learning about the history of these caves—you’ll be amazed at how people back then carved such large, detailed homes into solid rock. Similar cave houses can be found in Greece, but these in Saumur felt truly unique, with spacious interiors and multiple rooms. Surprisingly interesting around this wonderful and well presented troglodyte farm. Plenty of and farm implements to see, with good explanations in English via the downloaded info or on the walls.
