What an epic location! The finish of Paris Roubaix, a that has been in existence since 1896, longer than the Tour de France (1903.) Just outside the entrance and down the street is the last set of pave (cobblestones) the riders must cover before they swing into the Roubaix outdoor velodrome. There are the winners' names carved in stone commemorating over 100 yrs of racing. It was so fun riding around the velodrome!! Amazing Place. When we passed by there was a football club training and the gates were closed A joyful place to be! It was a splendid day of December. The people were nice. Arrived about 20minutes before the riders came in and there was plenty of spots for a good view. Not in the best state but nice wall paintings from past Paris Roubaix winners. Seems always open. Great place to the finale of Paris Roubaix. Get there early for a good seat in the grandstand. You will be able to the from giant TV screens. Security is tight, but you are allowed to bring in a sandwich and bottles of water. There are also a few beer stands, food vendors, and merchandise vendors, on the grounds once you get in. English is accepted, French preferred. So I have travelled from the other side of the world, just happen to be riding here. Looking online, seems like they’re pretty cool about letting you ride inside & do a few laps. After all it is a pretty run-down old velodrome that only gets used for a few hours once each year. But “non”, a grumpy official in a Roubaix shirt ran over to me and made it clear I wasn’t allowed to ride around the velodrome. I tried my best smiling visitor plea & poor French, “Je suis Australien”… to no avail. Off I was sent packing, and the velodrome stayed sad & quite in it’s run down state. In all seriousness, Roubaix does not have a lot going for it in terms of natural beauty or tourist attractions. Here you have one thing that is recognized all over the world as a famous icon. Embrace that fame & make it a welcoming place for visiting cyclists. You might just make both the visitors & locals very happy. Arrived on a Saturday hoping to cycle on the famous track. It was all open and free to get in. Nice atmosphere with other sports going on and families using it too. What can I say, nerd so this place was cool to visit. Didn’t ride on the track so I won’t attest to that. Folks at the shop we’re very friendly and opened the doors for my friend and I to wander around inside and see all the memorabilia. You can feel the history when you enter! Attended a party for the one day classic Paris-Roubaix bike at the park next to the Roubaix Velodrome. Great place to a road race! There was a big screen set up in front of the hospitality tent so we could the live broadcast of the in comfort. The major sponsors of the - Region Hauts-de-France; Nord; Shimano; Oakley were all on site. The Education First - EF - team had a tent along with Basso bikes; others present were the Boutique Shop Roubaix; Vera Cycling; Pouki; Kerozene 74 along with frites and refreshment vendors. We shared the ten with club members and fans who had ridden the route the day before. Wanted to buy a replica trophy but , let's face it, a cobblestone trophy isn't work paying excess baggage fees for. All the team busses and cars were lined up along the street by the venue. Got to see some of the riders that crashed out and couldn't continue along with a number of U19 team riders.
