A stunning location at the mouth of the River Tees. South Gare Breakwater and Lighthouse offers a wonderful panorama of sea, coastline and wildlife. A very bracing location and well worth a visit. Very beautiful place, with a unique feel, rising out the ashes of fossil fuel industry into a green renegade flying the flag for a cleaner future. Fantastic beaches and wind turbines on one side, nuclear power and oil terminals on the other, very strange, clash of degeneration v regenerative nature Lovely unspoilt coastal spot with miles of beach. Cafe at weekends. Boatyard and fishermen still a plenty. Excellent swim and fishing spots. Free parking and no restrictions, most popular with campervans at weekends but always space. Great beach, lovely getting to see shipping and wildlife as usual, parking and cafe, no longer able to walk round or fish from lighthouse. Fisherman's huts still there and paddies hole tiny harbour. Nice walks and views, I ve been going all my life and I'm a pensioner now, we walked our dog and our children fished and played and as adults lol. They still go as well when they visit. We walked from Redcar to the end, but you can drive. Interesting spot - why are the huts all green? Why is that one not? Sat and watched the ships roll in, and we watched some roll away again. Walked back along the beach, and knocked 30 minutes off our time. Quiet place to reflect and dust away the cobwebs sun was not out, but sometimes that doesn't matter. Redcar sometimes gets a bit of stick, but this place deserves a little attention if you if dare . What a gem this place is. It's a place where industry connects with nature. On one side you have a beach, sand dunes and a wind farm, the other is of the Tees port, with various types of ships sailing past. An area steeped in history and a very peaceful and tranquil atmosphere. The at this end of the spit is fantastic. Beautiful sand with a great view of the wind turbines and the mouth of the Tees. The backdrop is industrial but a wonderful place. On the about an hour's walk to Redcar. On the Road an hour and a half from the town proper. You can park up although the council is putting in barriers to deter overnight camping. Lovely views of the fishing boats in the little harbour.
