Free to visit these monastic ruins and gatehouse. walking paths interspersed with medieval abbey ruins and interesting signs providing some history - very nice. Also has a lovely rose garden area, and some benches throughout. Car park was decent, though the physical machine wasn’t working so had to faff with downloading their app to pay. Prices ok for English car park. Visited here on Saturday afternoon. Plenty of parking and not expensive, easy walks around the grounds. Ideal for families with little kids. You pay for parking on exit. If you love history then you need to have a visit, buried king and all the history that goes with a place like this Parking was a fiasco - machine was broken but the sign was on the side so people couldn't see it. Lots of garbage dotted about, including inside the cloisters area. Surely it wouldn't be too difficult to clean up? The stone marking Harold's resting place has graffiti scratched into it. Also there was a decent percentage of pigeon corpse lying around. All in all, not too great. Green and peaceful oasis in the middle of town. Car park very reasonable - £1 for 1 hr and £2 for 24 hrs. In summer rose garden must be beautiful, but even in winter dullness was refreshing to around and enjoy greenery and wildlife. Peaceful and well maintained gardens to the Abbey. Popular with dog walkers! Could do with some litter bins for general waste as you’ll often see rubbish left around. Plenty of car parking but beware, you’ll need to pay. It very being here, in this place, park with family, friends or even being here by your self. Its atmosphere is totally different and very relaxing. On Sunday afternoon the bells of the gorgeous church will sound magnificent, wile the gentle wind will push you away, in though or dreams far from the place we're standing. Good for afternoon Brilliant park... You can see the changing seasons. My dogs and me love this place. Lovely local grounds to around. I work from home, so I use the picnic benches at lunch time to sit at and get some fresh air while eating lunch. Some days very peaceful, other days can be a bit busier. But all in all, defo a place to take 30 mins out of the day to relax before going back to work. Lunch is usually from Gregs! The only negative is that dog owners don’t always keep their dogs on a lead here. Loved looking round the Abbey. Stunning ceiling. Check out King Harold's Grave. Such a lovely place with a great history and surroundings. We have spent so much time over here with our son exploring which normally leads to us ending a lot further from the car than planned or enjoying food and drinks in the Abbey. Tea rooms when open have friendly staff and a decent slice of cake. We had a but brief around the Abbey and gardens. There is a lot of interesting history surrounding the Abbey, which you can read about as you walk. We will definitely visit again in the summer to take a longer walk.
