I enjoyed my toastie and coke before heading back on the road. Just finished my first 5k from Rubias. Here at the Cafe Castro is my first coffee- completed with fresh orange juice, ham & cheese sandwich. What a delight! The owner was so kind with service that included a great smile! With a sore ankle on the Camino Portugués, I was so grateful the owner helped organise a taxi to Valença. The coffee and Pastel de Nata were divine — such genuine care and great taste! Oh my goodness. I’m deeply touched by their food. The simplicity, the taste and the warm. i, Camino walker, didn’t expect a sandwich would be heated/grilled, not to mentioned the crunchiness and softness of the bread after heated was perfection to me. Thank you for being existence and being authentic. Your food just made my day. The price was decent, the staff was warm and welcome. I will come again. Do not miss the Pastel de Nata and add a dash of cinnamon on top. The crust was the best I’ve had in Portugal! Great place for a quick breakfast on the camino. However forget it as an albergue (it has a bed bug(s) !!! The shower and the toalet should be renovated as well. I absolutely loved my stop at Café Castro, especially the freshly squeezed orange juice. After days with few fruits and vegetables, it felt like pure sunshine in a glass. I’m so grateful for this beautiful little stop that brought such simple joy and refreshment.
