Fantastic, we ate well after exploring the glacier around the edges. Nice walk up did it in 2 hours but lots of sweat. Worth it for any one that wishes to embark on this adventure. Recommended! Ok, this is hands down the best hut we have ever stayed in!!!! No, it is not the most modern, the biggest, the most luxurious or the most remote one... but it is the most HUT. In any respect. First of all the team is absolutely stunningly welcoming. With the front of house team (Mario and Bruno) as first class waiters with indestructible humor and charm. But also the "owners" who in the background manage this hut with an unparalleled ease and humanity. The cooks are great and whip up super tasty dishes at any hour of the day. Everything here breathes warmth, professionalism and love for mountains and people. We all should treasure this... so... BE NICE TO THE PEOPLE!! Say hello, say thank you, tell them they are great, and don't behave like a dork. Upon arrival, we were impressed by the location and by the rifugio itself. The staff was nice and helpful. However, the food left us with mixed feelings: good lunch and a dinner that could be improved. But what was disappointing was the covid organisation: distancing was observed throughout but the rooms had beds filled with stacks of ‘off-limits’ blankets and duvets which gave the air of an old war zone... For a rifugio, great place and super nice service!! Only couple of showers with extra cost (so you don’t know if the person sleeping next to you has taken shower…) and pretty tight sleeping beds especially when rifugio full.. no privacy at all! Dinner was plenty of food, typical high mountain rifugio quality level, but breakfast only bread, jam, bisquits… which would be good to be able to upgrade to more nutritious one with extra cost maybe? Wonderful area though between mountains. Enjoyed!! Strenuous hike up the mountain in the heat of summer, but worth it for the beautiful views (at the Refugio over the glacier)! Food was really nice, we enjoyed the minestrone, polenta and cheese/meat platter. Service was average: efficient, but not particularly friendly.
