I had even sent a mail two days beforehand to ask from which date it would be open but received no answer. Needless to say, I had to be satisfied with touring the large park around the castle, eat some apricots on a bench in the shadow and admire a couple of sculptures. When I later the same day arrived at Castello Savoia I was informed that Castello Gamba would be closed till at least the second half of the month of July. It would have been nice if the relevant internet site would have been updated!! I'll be back some other time. We returned to Castello Gamba a warm Saturday mid August of 2025 when the renovation had been finished and the museum reopened to the public. We were almost alone despite being in the middle of the most intense vacation period in Italy. The permanent exhibition of modern and contemporary art is of good quality and the presence of comfortable easy-chairs permits the tired visitor to enjoy the artwork from a sitting position. The temporary exhibition on the two uppermost floors I found to be more a commercial enterprise than art, hence quite a deception. Overall, I have mixed feelings about the curation. Beautiful view to Aosta Valley from the upper floor This is not one of those massive fortified medieval castles perched on top of a hill or rock, rather an elegant aristocratic residence built in the early 1900s. But you can still admire a beautiful panorama and the Dora Baltea from it, and enjoy its vast grounds. More importantly, it contains the modern art collection of the Val d'Aosta region (plus other temporary exhibitions), which is very interesting and allows one to get know the works of some local artists, beside more famous Italian ones. The price is very reasonable (currently 6 euros) and the personnel is very polite and helpful. Great, somehow empty place (while other castles require booking in advance!) houses a great collection if you are into modern and contemporary art, the price of admission is low for what you're seeing, but it is no inside, basically an art museum in a renovated castle. Their tablet app and guidance is very nice for a modest fee of 3 euros the vocal explanations are bright and to the point, this is highly recommended if you enjoy modern art. Just don't come here expecting to visit a or for archeology. Even if it is closed for repairs we stopped to check the place. A green park with lot of big trees - some with more than 100 years, with the at the top of it near the end of the hills. Good to make a break and perhaps a picnic. Nice park and view from the garden. Unfortunatelly closed inside, although on working hours. Beautiful place. The modern art museum is very interesting at a cheap price. For free you can visit the park with a giant sequoia.
