Had a nice swim here with family and looked around the library. Found some books I'd like to borrow too Fantastic local amenity. Only used the cafe, swimming pool and library but all were excellent and the staff have been friendly and polite throughout. Can't wait to try the courts for badminton! Great facility – shame about the management. Be aware that while the pool itself is excellent and Wiltshire Council did a great job with the infrastructure, our experience was completely ruined by the behaviour of the on-site manager. During a quiet Adult Swim session, my wife and I were threatened with removal – and even police involvement!! – simply for using a snorkel to assist our swimming. We are beginner swimmers and have used snorkels in previous sessions without issue. This time, however, we were suddenly told it was against the rules, even though no such rule had ever been communicated to us, and others were using similar equipment. The manager’s approach was rude, aggressive, and completely unprofessional. Instead of explaining the rules clearly or respectfully, she escalated the situation unnecessarily. We left the building feeling humiliated. If you’re considering bringing swimming aids or training equipment, ask to see the rulebook in advance – the rules seem to vary depending on who’s enforcing them, and how they feel that day. A great facility let down by shockingly poor customer service and inconsistent enforcement of rules. A really lovely new building but totally let down by poor systems. I've stopped going there at all because I got so sick of not being able to get through the swipe card access. Any commercial organisation would have switched that system off within an hour of realising it wasn't working. Where is the centre's management and why aren't they getting on top of these simple problems? Edited to say: here I am trying the a year later, and the swipecard system still doesn't work. Spent ten minutes with a member of staff who issued me a new card, and still couldn't get into my class. Very Modern Building. I use the gym often and it's great, nice atmosphere, good lighting and equipment. Always a staff member around if you have a question. Couple things I wish they had: another cable machine ( there are only 2 cables - often being used and usually have to wait a while, especially at peak times), a lat pull down machine (I miss this a lot coming here) and an assited pull up machine. Adding these would really elevate the gym imo. Otherwise it's great. Really nice gym but can get busy at times, a good range of classes and clean changing rooms. I have never used the pool so can't comment but it is obviously popular. As with previous reviews my one gripe is getting through the swipe card access, it usually takes me 3-4 attempts over a minute and sometimes not at all. On these occasions a lady from behind reception has tried and got through first time which irritates you even more! A multi-million pound campus, slowly falling apart at the seams; Melksham community campus is a cutting edge facility that is already showing signs of becoming a tired and neglected leisure centre, much like the rest of the Wiltshire gyms. As of writing this review, there are three of the six treadmills currently out of order, 1 exercise bike, the leg curl machine is missing its front panel and one of the pads one of the exercise benches is falling apart, being cracked and showing the stitching beneath which is a breeding ground for the bacteria that is shed from the skins of every person that uses it. The changing rooms are also starting to show the steady state of decline that most other leisure changing rooms do. Grotty conditions in the shower cubicles with streaks running down the walls, limescale build up around the fittings and hair and grime left on the floor. The library which once was a haven for readers and those who wished to study is now a hangout for the local youths to sit and discard rubbish into the electrical outlet sockets on the tables. This of course leads to them being damaged and becoming unusable, and those wishing to study having no where to plug their laptops in. A bg problem in a library that only has three tables with outlets for people to plug into in the first place. I spoke to a member of staff who said that Salisbury is the head leisure centre, and when things go wrong there, it is fixed immediately. Unfortunately, for a small town like Melksham, we are overlooked and have to wait 6-8 weeks for anyone to come and address any of the issues facing the function of our leisure centre. Maybe when Trowbridge gets their leisure up and running, being the county town of Wiltshire, they will have a high priority for getting things fixed when they are broken. Then maybe, if they deem us worthy, the technician might be able to pop over to Melksham and address any of the issues facing us too. Staff behind the desk are so poor. Zero help or understanding when asking them questions. Frankly just plain rude. Real shame as the facility is lovely.
