This is a hidden gem, not really advertised. Just came here by accident. The renovations are ongoing for 30 years by a very friendly group of volunteers. Even during Sunday they were on site putting maximum effort into the work. Definitely worth a visit! Incredibly cute and sympathetic place. The is from the early 12th century, renovated in the last 30 years. It has free parking and there is an easy 10 minute to it. The entrance is voluntary. 1 | Žovnek is a medieval fortification first documented in 1278, located above Lake Žovnek near the town of Braslovče in eastern Slovenia. It was the original seat of the Lords of Žovnek, who later became the influential Counts of Celje. 2 | The ruins are gradually being restored by a group of volunteers. It’s open to the public 24/7 and free to visit. If you'd like, you can leave a donation in the box to support the restoration. 3 | Although it requires a bit of a detour, it's a pleasant stop. You can park for free in the lot below the castle. 4 | Visiting the takes about 20 minutes. The site offers a nice view of the surrounding forests, and informational panels provide detailed insight into the castle's history. Grad obnovljen s prostovoljnim delom. Lep razgled v celjsko dolino in okoliške griče. Zelo lepo It’s a fascinating historic spot with beautiful views and a peaceful atmosphere. It’s well worth a visit if you enjoy history and nature — a lovely place to explore and take in the scenery! The ruins are being restored and rebuilt and on Sundays everyone is welcome as a volunteer to help. A little ruins, nicely restored. There is such a nice view from the top of the castle. You can park at the first parking for walking about 15 mins by foot. You might as well take the second parking in front of a barrier for enjoying a 10 min walk. Firstly - don't think about it and just come here. The is in ruins and there are people still renovating it or better rebuilding it. Basically looks like a construction site. Take that on a side, views from up here are something that will make you wanna come again. Be generous and donate something, people are trying to make this shine again, few euros will not harm you. There's a parking lot for about 8 cars and after that a 5-10 minutes up the hill for the castle. An interesting diversion away from the main tourist stuff. It's about 15 minute up a steepish wooded road from the car park which is reached by a lovely drive through the countryside. It's a ruin but undergoing tasteful restoration by volunteers. Fantastic views and many benches for picnics etc however there is very little shade. I have never heard of it before, and I drove a road with a sign to it so many times before that day when I truly saw it, and spontaneously turned the sign. After a while driving and no sign… oh there was one and again nothing. Just when I was above to turn there it comes, so huge! My heart started pumping and I wanted to come as near as possible with my car since it was already late. So I parked under the by a wooden closed house/bar? And went up the grass way…the quickest way. Well, coming nearer to the I realize how optimistic of me, to believe, a was made so, that I can acess it from underneath….🙈however , no turning around now. And guess what, I could enter directly on the princess balcony. I found that fact out later on, because everything was closed and I meet only one tourist who wasn’t brave enough to greet. But I was totally in the mood of spirits, royalty and creating my dream-life and on top of that, they have a wish/hit stone-which was just perfect to send my wishes to the universe. Later on I found out, the was found by local hikers and with help of donations they renovated it to the point it looks today. Heads up for everyone involved in these important cultural impact for the honor of history on our Land. The has a view above a lake. I am looking forward to go there again😁 Glede na kvaliteto obnovitvenih del, nebi nikoli rekel, da poteka na prostovoljni bazi. Čestitke vsem! Vstopnine ni, je pa skrinjica za prispevke. Uporabite jo. Fantastic. Great to through the woods and we had the whole to ourselves. About 40 percent restored. Free entry. Sok részét felújították, (folyamatosan építik) de azok látogatók elől zárva vannak. Csak kívülről látszik. Nice location with great view. They are still doing works, but once done it will be real nice Super srednjeveški dan We visited Žovnek for the May Day holidays. It was a beautiful day for sightseeing and walking. Žovnek is a beautiful semi-reconstructed from the 12th century. Free parking is located at the foot of the mountain. It is about a 15-minute to the on a forested road uphill, a nice through nature. Admission is free and the is in the restoration phase. Inside the there is plenty of space for sightseeing with an incredible view of the surroundings. Touring the was a small but wonderful tourist adventure. Highly recommended to visit. Line lugar encantador Parkolótól rövid, de emelkedő úton könnyen megközelíthető. A vár története, néhai funkciója érdekes. A kilátás pazar, érdemes meglátogatani. A becsületkasszába feltétlen fizess be, a vár felújítására fordítják.
