Honestly, it was disappointing. Not explanations locked doors and very dark inside Not worth putting on a should see list Huntingtower Castle, once known as Ruthven or the Place of Ruthven, is located near the village of Huntingtower beside the A85 and near the A9, about 5 km NW of the centre of Perth, Perth and Kinross, in central Scotland, on the main road to Crieff. This is the subject for several local ghostlore stories...Huntingtower was built at least by the 14th century as it was one of the castles owned by the Lords of Badenoch. Alexander Stewart, Earl of Buchan, called the Wolf of Badenoch for his misdeeds, died there in 1394. Mrs. Campbell and the gentleman working today are 100% my kind of people. Wish I had got his name, but those two are amazing employees and made our trip worth every mile. This was my father's first proper castle, and he had so much fun. The kids loved the games and we all would love to come back. Nice little castle. Car park is very small and no campervan or motorhome which it doesn't say on website. Members of English Heritage get in for free. Well preserved and good stonework. Access the roof if you're OK with heights offering good views across the area and of the 'lovers leap' across the roof - story behind this on information boards. Spiral staircases to different levels make for interesting exploration. Car park, toilets and pet friendly in the grounds but no pets allowed in the itself. Sensibly priced. Gorgeous with a charming story. The gentleman at the reception is very helpful and knowledgeable. Bonus, the toilet is super clean! My husband and I decided to visit this because it was along our driving route from Kingussie to Linlithgow. The is one of many historic sites we visited with the Historic Scotland Explorer Pass during our trip to Scotland. While visiting the we had a pleasant conversation with the property manager, Alison, whom recommended us to also visit Elcho nearby. Huntingtower was a delight to tour. We were visiting the hunting tower for the first time last weekend and really enjoyed our time at the castle. The lady at the ticket place is very lovely and the is very unique and ancient. Make sure you use the blanket provided to view the art at the ceiling! Looks a bit silly but really worth the try!
