We took the strenuous up the steps.... I am overweight and unfit so found it challenging but not uncomfortable. I was wearing Skechers pumps and a skirt, so it can't be that bad! We walked back down to the bottom car the gentler way which gave us a nice circular route, and going up the way instead of down was preferable as it is easier on the joints etc. There is lots of tree cover, so it's a nice break from a strong sun. We only saw a half dozen people the whole time and it was a Saturday of a Bank Holiday weekend. At the top, you on the brow of the hill. We missed a turn to the and had to come back despite it being signed because it looked as though the disappeared amongst trees to a drop. Don't be put off, it curves around out of sight. There is a concrete area with a railing and a long bench to sit on. You can see both the new and old bridge and across the water to the other side...an impressive with a historic story. There is no cafe or toilet so be prepared! We had a delightful Sunday stroll here in the late afternoon. The serene ambiance and a sparse crowd made it a pleasant experience for everyone. However, those with knee issues might find it challenging. The offers two routes to the viewpoint, and I suggest beginning on the left side for an easier ascent and returning via the 365 steps. Clear signage guides the way and a nearby car adds convenience. The from the top is truly breathtaking. Highly recommended! Nice - can be part of a circular or linear (we did the latter from the upper car which involved less incline. Not for the faint hearted or the infirm! An hour's rough through ancient woodland to the most spectacular view. The way down was on uneven and rocky paths, but it was really worth it for the view. Outstanding across the Wye Valley! There are 3 routes up. One from the North which follows the cliffs, and the other 2 from the nearby car park. Of those, one is signposted as medium and there other as challenging. The challenging one is mostly made of stone and is rather at times. Recommend the other if you don't like inclines 😅 This must be one of the best viewpoints along the Wye Valley. The nearest access point is gained by parking at Upper Wyndcliffe car which eliminates your having to negotiate the steepest part of the so called moderate & should be o k for anyone of reasonable fitness. Parking at Lower Wyndcliffe car allows you the choice of ascending via the whole of the moderate which includes one climb before passing the upper car on your way & then descending via the 365 which requires good mobility. This would be my choice. For the full flavour of reaching The Eagle's Nest I like to from Chepstow along The Wye ValleyWalk & then return partially the same way but deviating away to pass the ruins of Piercefield House & Chepstow Race course when having passed The Druid's Temple & being by the site known as Double View. At Eagle's Nest there is a long bench to sit on. Stunning views across The River Wye & far away. On a very hot day we climbed up the 365 from the upper car (follow the downhill to your right initially). It was shaded pretty much all the way up and so much cooler than we were expecting. Fabulous views. Then we walked down on the with no steps. I would've struggled going down some of those but going up them if you're reasonably fit is fine. This place is an hour up a mountain in the woods! I gave it 3 stars only because I had to give it a rating in order to leave a comment. Please update the Google post to show this. There were less able people in our group that couldn't make the so we never made it to the top. Just an FYI if you have ppl with mobility issues in your group but, I'm sure the from .the top would be amazing . Spectacular view. To get to the actual viewpoint, take the right at the top of the trail and it's gonna be on the right, behind the trees. Need to take a steep, short path. Spectacular view. We did the in the hottest day of the year and managed it as most of the up was in the shade. I’d advise the easy up and the down, those are challenging enough on the way down and not for the nervous, but I can’t imagine we’d have made it using the up ! Well worth the effort though and a welcome bench at the top to enjoy the Lovely to a fantastic of the wye valley, near chepstow. Nice little hike to get the blood pumping and probably the best in the area. Overgrown trees so limited what would otherwise be a picturesque view. Horrid pothole upon entering /leaving car otherwise really nice little spot. What a wonderful of the river, the estuary and both bridges from this viewpoint. There are two ways to access it: the lower car which means climbing 365 (!); or the upper car which involves a up a winding, very stony path. This is not for anyone with mobility issues or prams/pushchairs. When you reach the eagles nest, there are a few down to it from the but there is a stone bench to rest awhile and admire the view. Lovely viewpoint. If you dont want the walk. Go to upper wyndclyff car park. Its about 400m/500m to the viewpoint. Slightly rocky walkway. All under tree cover. Not strenuous. Viewpoint is to the right of the small 4ft post once you reach slightly flat ground. You'll miss it if you keep going straight. Lovely spot Amazing amazing amazing! My sister and I went up to this one sunrise on a weekend road trip through Wales and I think about it daily. The itself was fantastical and beautiful and, with some of the paths being trickier to manoeuvre, a fun challenge to get to the top. The is well sign posted and you can either do a circular or backtrack from the itself. The ‘Nest’ itself has a stone bench and railings along the front edge. The is brilliant and worth it and if you have an hour or two spare, you should definitely do this hike. Nice takes about an hour. Two choices of up, if you choose the way they are and slippery when wet so if its been particularly wet i would suggest the alternative easier route.
