First in The Buck, recommended by a work colleague. Easy to find with Google maps. Found parking was OK, was lucky to get a spot as its so busy here. The garden is and roomy and the smoking area under shelter with tables and cushions on long benches. Went for the Sunday roast dinner, The Calverley was amazing and plentiful of various vegetables, 3 kinds of meat. Great selection of desserts as well from or from the dessert trolly. I would definitely recommend giving The Buck a try. The festive mixed grills came out warm at best, with no egg and over cooked chicken. The one pot prawn Caribbean curry was lovely. The salmon was also lovely. We were disappointed to find out after we had ordered our food that the was still available, yet the signs said it had finished. Some of the were great, but there were long waits. Nice range of choices on the menu. Bit of a mixed bag experience wise. Looking at the latest reviews decided to leave my own. We been here couple of times and both times we were happy with the food and service. When we attended the first food took quite a while, but second food arrived promptly. I have no problem if people ask what would I like to drink straight away, and drinks arrived quickly. We have only tried Caribbean food here and jerk dishes are really tasty, best thing if u say you want spicy food it actually arrives spicy! Yum! We will be visiting again. We eat off the lunch menu. The food looked great, but very poor quality fish. It was not cod or haddock. In fact I can’t tell you what it is. It was tasteless, texture was like jelly. Chips were soft & dry as they were pre-cooked and left to the side to be reheated. The batter was probably the nicest part and wasn’t all that. We had to ask for our orders to be taken bcoz the waitress was talking to someone at the bar for around 20 minutes. There was no other customers in the place at the time. The most delicious place to eat. Food was some of the best flavours I have tasted. Excellent sized portions value for money too. There is a huge variety of choices on the and the children's is very reasonable with portions. The outdoor seating area is gorgeous with a designated smoking area and separate outside seating with covers. A quirky venue with stunning old features inside from the age of the pub. I will definitely be visiting again. We had a there atmosphere is with food as well I had the king prawn curry with fried rice on the side was tasty, well worth a visit there the drinks are do serve cocktails to. Had Sunday here this weed and the food was delicious, plenty of choice! Really liked the fact the gravy is in a jug on the table, plenty of it. Reasonably priced too. Didn't have a desert but they looked delicious in the fridge cabinet. Food not so good. We arrived and were told no reservation under our name, member of put us on a of six while we waited for our friends. After 15 minutes I decided to have a look around and found our friends on the we should have been on. had no idea what the pie of the day or what soup was on. No heating on which did not help either. However as I said earlier food was fantastic. Nice food prices for lunchtime 👍 Came here with my folks. The meal of fish was very nice and the chips were perfectly done. Also had a pretty range of beers. Felt there was a strangely tense atmosphere amongst the though, as if theres an underlying friction going on. Booked for eleven had two tables of six on arrival separated in a alcove so we couldn’t talk across the tables Table booked for 13:30 meal ordered and arrived at 14:25 Two meals sent back as fish and chicken was cold option given was cook from fresh or re-warm based on to cook we went re-warm We had deserts which while eating the girl off the till told us we have 15 minutes as was needed for next customers then before finishing desert she asked us to clear the table So annoyed as we had two birthday celebrations in our party and it took nearly an hour for food to arrive and then had to re-warm two meals No one came and asked us if food was ok and had to ask for desert we spent over £300 for our meals and were shepherded to hurry up!!! Not very impressed at all as my fiancee and I regularly use this restaurant but after today we may consider elsewhere Never felt any welcome or detail from them today never mind your loss!!! Been here a lot for drinks and a few times for food, it is always a atmosphere and are friendly. Went yesterday for an anniversary meal and the food was to die for 😁 a few vegan options Went for Sunday dinner. Food and were excellent. Would definitely go again. 2 stars off though for, I assume, the restaurant manager shouting and swearing at the kitchen at the back. Very audible in the serving area of the restaurant and totally unprofessional with families present. Personally I believe to be the best Beef I've ever had at a restaurant/carvery. Very tasty and melts in your mouth! Not sure if a Silverside but it seems like it's cooked low and slow and it's amazingly delicious! The rest of the I have found to be hit or miss. Whilst it can taste wonderful a lot of the time, there have been times where the veg has been overcooked or swimming in water too long, so by the you're served it's waterlogged, especially the swede :( Sunday Prices (July '25):- £16.95 Carvery £14.95 Takeaway £1.75 Extra Portion of Gravy (T/Away) £2.00 Extra Roasties (T/Away) Massive takeaway portion which is very appreciated, however if you don't check the containers before leaving the establishment, you run the risk of food items being missing. I asked to pay for an extra gravy as its so delicious you can just drink it, but I had to point this out when collecting my food as even though I had been charged, the extra gravy was missing from the bag. I then took my dinner of Turkey & Beef with all the veg home to eat but it did not have any Roast Potatoes or a Yorkshire Pudding and I couldn't justify another 30 minute round trip to complain and collect the missing items. Overall a beautiful when done right. At the establishment itself 8 or 9/10, Takeaway 7/10 only for the inconsistencies. Young waitresses not entirely pleasant. No mind for customer sadly. Food was expcetional however. Very well organised, they accommodated 14 of us. Would go again. First out with girls since lockdown decided on The Buck as we also wanted to go to a new bar near by. was absolutely outstanding, atmosphere food and drink quality and cheap, Christina our waitress really looked after us. Left to spend the rest of evening at near by bar and and vibe in the place was so poor we decided to go back to The Buck, so glad we did. What a lovely place. Thank you. I recently had the pleasure of dining at The Buck Inn in Pontlliw for their carvery, and it was truly exceptional! The variety of meats was fantastic. A choice of beef and turkey, which was perfectly cooked and tender, with all the classic trimmings to match, the stuffing was outstanding! The vegetables were fresh, and everything was piping hot. The Yorkshire puddings were deliciously crispy and the gravy....wow. The were warm and attentive, making sure everything was just right, and the atmosphere was cozy and welcoming. It's the perfect place for a traditional, hearty meal. Plus on Tuesdays its buy one carvery, get one free!!! Highly recommend it to anyone in the area – can't wait to go back! My husband and I had steak. It was cooked well and was lovely. The only thing I would say is tho for the price I would have expected to see some mushrooms onion rings and maybe some salad on the plate ..not just steak chips peas and half a tomato. by the young was very and they were very busy. We will be back again but just felt our plates could have been dressed a bit better for the price paid.
