Best FishKeepers’ business in town. I mean, there are few left but it’s still amazing. Nice: freshwater, saltwater, ponds and equipment for all levels, ages and tastes. It’s even a nice place to hang out and meet fellow reefers and aquarists! I have been a customer of the Fishkeeper for three years now, and every time I visit, I always find excellent service and availability. Today, I came in with a problem, and Ian helped me solve it with his extensive knowledge and expertise. The staff is always friendly, professional, and ready to assist with any questions. Highly recommended for anyone passionate about aquariums! Really, listening and helpfully identifying what we needed, then getting the best option. A very nice team. Nobody is perfect so I never give a five star review, but I struggle to think anything they could do better. I have a wonderful experience with viewing the world, and Jessica is very professional and knowledgeable about how to build up the system, she gave me so many great advices on selecting the and tools. She is a lovely lady and I am so lucky to meet her, I heavily recommend if you want to join the tropical world. Louisa in Dobbies, Melvillegate, Edinburgh was very knowledgeable about Betta ( Siamese fighting fish) today. She was quite right in saying they are a species only who do best on their own in a 25l minimum WITHOUT mates. The likes of endlers/guppies/tetras will attack the fins of long flowing Betta and eat them. Or the betta will hide away and suffer….. Keep them on their own in a well planted with almond leaves for them to hide under if they want to and don’t forget a floating plant or two for them to rest in when they go up for a breath. Yes, they have a labyrinth organ so they can breathe air at the surface as well as through their gills. PH around 7 or under. GH - (water hardness) under 7, ideally 5. Well done Louisa and Fishkeeping Scotland in doing the right thing by Betta fish. Your tanks are small but as Betta can’t be kept with other we hope they will sell quickly or be decanted into bigger tanks after a few weeks if they haven’t sold. People need to understand that. 🙏 Buy Bettas from Dobbies, Edinburgh. Oh and when you get them home, keep them in 28degrees water temp. They need to be warm or they will hide and sit on the floor to conserve energy!! No questions that I asked where too much and I gained so much more knowledge. Was professional throughout was a 10:10 experience and can’t wait to come back and hopefully make some purchases. A very long overdue review. In the summer we set our son up with a with help from the team here. Since July … we have now gone to three tanks (never do a hobby by halves). We have had so much help from the wonderful team here at the Lasswade branch. They have inspired us, been endlessly helpful and patient as we got/get to grips with our new obsession. Julie and Cameron have always gone above and beyond, they are helpful, funny and a pleasure to deal with. We now have a very spoilt betta fish, a thriving hoard of neocardina (more on the way as you can see in the picture below) and a fun mixed temperate tank. Thank you so much for all the help and I am sure we shall back in store soon. Can’t recommend this store enough, great stock and wonderful staff. I am pleasantly surprised to say I had an amazing experience at Melville Fishkeepers yesterday.
