Reflecting on mankind's past it's sad there was so much greed, killing and destruction...which still goes on today. This place is intact with modern items for sale. Perfect place to enjoy french cuisine znd walk around, there are plenty of restaurant around the area and it is so pretty. There is always a public market outside and a good view even when you just sit down. But keep in mind parking is not easy when it's weekend. Phenomenal! Don't miss this. The Citadel is huge. You can spend several hours wandering through, on, and under this dramatic, historic site. We arrived by bike and are camping in the Municipal camping area, within the Citadel walls. Absolutely amazing. We had a delicious lunch at Le Bastion, a rustic restaurant, also within the Citadel. Even with a heat wave going on it was beautiful. The people were very kind. The history is amazing! Nice Old Fort for walking. Nice views and few restaurants and shops. Free parking and free entry. Overall a nice day out. Just for info, restaurants are expensive, with a nice river view. Open all the time and it's free! The information signs explain the history and structures well. The views of the river are awesome.
