National Trust - Pepperbox Hill

Not much here really. The view from the field in which the tower is in is very curtailed by all the bushes and small trees that have grown up. There is a small opening looking towards Salisbury Cathedral in the distance....that's quite nice...there is a bench there, too. The access up is along a narrow unpaved (very short). No problems here, nor with an ample carpark (at least for a Tuesday morning). I suspect there may be some very beautiful walks along the bridle path, in which case more stars would have been forthcoming, but sadly as I was with my aged Father we couldn't explore..... A viewing spot all around here and a very on a sunny day, the tower isn't much more than a well built ,(English bond ) tower not too big and not accessible. gravel car well maintained though the lane up is tight and pot hole riddled. Really great of Wiltshire countryside with Salisbury cathedral spire in the background. place to wander for a couple of hours. On our way back from a holiday i was looking for a place to my dog. The actual Pepperbox was interesting to look at but that was about it. I walked my dog and was bitten by 2 ticks. Luckily no infection. As I was in my motorhome I parked in the lay-by but the kissing gate was padlocked. I climbed over and tore my shirt. So not the best of visits. The was good and the fabulous. I went on the way in to Salisbury, approach lane is very narrow (1 car only) and unpaved so rough and bumpy. However the car is only about 50 yards or so. The tower in middle of field , all bricked up and it's not ornamental in any way just a slightly unusual shape. 'Tower' is stretching it a bit , it's not very tall but across the field is a view of countryside. area with a good view, walks, free parking. around here today and quiet place lots of wild life and the only shame is dog walkers they should be banned if they can not work out how to pick up after there dog and the car is a hard grave car the leading to it's full of potholes as others have said Beautiful location for a little family walk. Tucked away off the A36 near Salisbury, this little gem boasts beautiful of the surrounding countryside and is a great place to fly a kite. The building on the hill is bricked up but interestingly people have been scratching their names and dates in to the brick work for many years and some date back to the 1800s. This was a little place to stop off at. Quite a bumpy unmade to the car but a chalk grassland landscape of wild flowers and an intriguing bricked up folly to marvel at. No one seems to be able to quite agree on whether the folly was built in 1606 or the 18th century. area, for the drone operators, please note that NT have recently changed their policy and are no longer trying to wrongly prohibit overflight. For Pepperbox Hill, follow the byway past the carpark, about 100m on the right there is a gap on the trees so you can maintain VLOS. Didn't see another soul but then I got there at 0430 to capture the sunrise. spot! Interesting folly to visit and walks around. Drive up to car a bit rutted and stoney so take care. spot with beautiful views! Lots of bees and butterflies enjoying the wildflowers. A beautiful place to come and watch the sunset over Salisbury, although there is only one proper viewing point! The flowers in the area are lovely. The turnoff from the is not signposted and a very steep/sharp turn onto a gravel so needs a bit of care!! Beautiful hidden gem 💎 car spacious and FREE!! there is a height restriction 2M 200CM Use caution if you have a low riding car! The to the car is VERY rough and bumpy! Strong caution advised. ⚠️ place for a dog walk, especially on a clear day as you can see Salisbury, the Cathedral and the Plains in the distance. Carry on walking along the ridge and you can see towards the Deans. Good for dog walking. Dogs allowed off lead but be aware of livestock. Not much to see apart from a bricked up Folly. of Salisbury. Car as a two meter height restriction but it's free parking, be careful as you enter and exit as it is on a fairly quick A but as long as your patient there's always a Gap in traffic, If you miss the entry, don't panic as there's places to turn safely, a mile or so either side. You are then faced with reversing back and onto a main or turning a campervan around. Both are challenging. Free car park, excellent views, calm and quiet space to chill and observe nature. We love The National Trust. Only downside far too much dog mess.
