Le Damier is a favourite of my in-laws who have a second home close to Fontanières. I ate at the restaurant for the first time last month and it certainly lived up to expectations. The restaurant had been done up since my in-laws’ last visit before the pandemic, and my father-in-law was a little disappointed not to see steak or foie gras on the menu. However, he needn’t have worried as everything we ordered off the new menu was fantastic. The highlight for me, likewise my wife and mother-in-law, was the smoked salmon and tuna tataki starter, especially the side of basil sorbet which we were still talking about weeks later. The ‘cheese briefcase’ between main and dessert was also a lovely (and delicious) touch. Our waiter was perfectly friendly and efficient throughout. Looking forward to another visit soon!
