The room was newly decorated and comfortable but the shower tray flooded the bathroom floor .when reported the management did not respond ...over all the welcome/service was formal rather than warm. Food was average for France and on the expensive side .... One excellent feature is the shop selling local produce .excellent jams from local fruit like myrtilles.... On a quiet afternoon in early November, our Irish family were returning from St Etienne in very low spirits, after seeing our young daughter,and sister who had recently lost her life while jogging in Annonay.We were a little anxious also as the roads had a covering of snow and ice. We saw this lovely roadside inn and decided to stop as we were all v hungry and being in low spirits expected we might just get a coffee.The French are v strict with eating times and our timing was not good.Yet the owner when he heard our story clicked his fingers and his staff swung into action.We had a wonderful meal with delicious pate accompanied by wonderful homemade rustic bread , delicious main courses of beef , a lovely French type stew and followed by the nicest selection of cheese we had eaten .The wine too was 1st class.Our host couldn't have been kinder and we were lost for words at his his generosity as we were leaving .We intend to return to France in 2018 to make remembrances there to our beloved Eimear.We certainly hope to visit again Auberge du Grand Bois when we return.
