The Cage

A lovely building that stands on the top of the hill. Its not usually opened up for the public to go inside. Excellent views from around it, you can see for miles. Great for photography opportunities. Access is via Lyme Park National trust. This is a beautiful viewpoint with the Cheshire plain and Manchester stretched out before you. It's only about 15mins walk from the main Lyme car park with a bit of a hill to climb, but nothing too strenuous. The building itself is nice, but I've never seen it open to be able to go inside. If you're lucky, you'll see some deer on the walk through the parkland too. The Cage is on the Lyme estate and we'll worth the effort of the walk with views on a clear day across Yorkshire, Derbyshire & Lancashire. Its open during weekends for selected time. Not a bad walking area but sadly, distant ugly Manc views spoil west views. But lovely area with deers running wild etc Lovely old building. Well worth the little walk to it. Will be coming back with a picnic as you can see for miles at the top. Great views all round. Permanently locked. Was a hunting lodge, cottage for park keeper and to hold prisoners. Nice vantage point for viewing southwards of Cheshire! I walked to The Cage from Lyme, and the view from there was exceptional. Beautifully located at the top of one of the best hills I have climbed so far. The breeze the the building and clocks and details. Great visit!
