Did not know such beauty existed so close to Thessaloniki along with a timelessly rustic shelter! Food was great after about a 45 minute hike, which you can make it as long as you want. We had the choice between mushroom, pumpkin, bean and its all-time famous chestnut soup (kastanosoupa)!! There was also a beef goulash (kokkinisto) with oven baked potatoes and twisted noodles for our junior friends, and all priced very reasonably! Plenty of room for kids to play and plenty of parking if you decide to dust people out on their hike! Just 25' driving from Thessaloniki center and then 45' hiking through forestry road at a slow pace, about 2,7 km the distance. You may take a break there, sit outdoor or indoor, have a coffee or lunch at low prices. From there you can head towards Chortiatis peak or continue exploring the dozens of paths within the forest. The place is well preserved and it offers a variety of food and drinks. On the weekends, you may find a lot of families and bikers that are stopping by to rest. It's dog friendly and the staff is really helpful. The prices of the food are up to 8€. I recommend trying the soups that they serve. Nice mountain refuge to end your hike or just visit by car. Located near the city so it is ideal for a short day trip. The hike is very nice and easy to do, we did 1.30h to go up there from Chortiatis village. The refuge offers some nice cooked meals and beverages and places to eat inside and out. The food is tasty but a bit pricey for the quality, worth to try the chestnut soup. On the weekends it gets pretty busy and crowded. The stuff is very friendly. What a surprise! Hikers club Thessaloniki set in lush cool forest with quaint bed and breakfast for days out with the family whether hot summer or snowy winters. Fantastic place, warm people ( Suzanna we loved meeting you) and amazing food. The scenery is unique. We spend many hours there and our kids loved it! Good place to take a break and enjoy a drink or a meal after a nice hike !
