We went for a around the up to Normanton very enjoyable and easy going, lovely postcard village and pub for refreshments. About an hours each way. A superb, well run on Rutland water, which has the added feature of an Osprey nest. The Ospreys are currently in residence and eggs are expected in the coming weeks from Mum "Maya". There is an entrance fee to the but is well worth the cost. There are scopes trained on the nest, which are for the use of visitors, plus the addition of a nest camera. Today's volunteer in the Hide nearest the Osprey's was excellent and highly knowledgeable. A nice detour on our way home. Loved the walk, although this is something you can see for free anywhere in UK. The family price was only £17, but still. There is toilets facilities in the tea room at the entrance and the car ticket is included on the nature trail ticket. A great place to start your visit to Rutland Water Nature Reserve. We'll illustrated with images and notes about the and its setting. Refreshments available, and we sampled the ice cream on our visit. A pass to the nature and the 'hides' is a must. Birds on the water and in the air in abundance. From a flotilla of beautiful swans to ducks, and of course the nesting osprey and their young. A waterside rest for the spirit and uplift for the body as you the waterside... The access road is steep, but well paved, and leads to a car park for the Centre at the bottom of the hill. Just marvellous! Lovely quiet day walking around the reservoir. Volunteers were on hand to point out where things were and what things were. If you want a peaceful I would very much recommend this area of Rutland water. If you love Ospreys this place is really special, the views of the lake from the hides are brilliant, the staff are knowlegable and passionate about the birds. Peaceful nice and enjoying something spectacular if you see the birds fishing. Look out for the cormorant tree as you wander along, sometimes they are so still they look like branches of the tree. Good to see the Ospreys but the nest is a long way from the hide understandably. Shot taken with a 1120mm lens. This is a fantastic place to visit. The hides were all in good condition, and the views of the Ospreys were great. I got some great photos of the Ospreys. The visitor centre is great for a hot drink after a few hours in the hides. Staff were very helpful too.
