Wonderful gem in Chartres! The ground floor show medieval that has been restored with detailed explanation of the process as well as the context of the imagery. Highlight of the main exhibit are the reproductions of the cathedral’s which is accompanied by detail explanations of each piece. Downstairs displays more contemporary art. Nice and informative museum to visit. Unexpectedly interesting part is to see and learn how stain has been and still is done. Good value for money. Recommend If you love you must come here. It gives you an opportunity to see medieval up close. To see repairs and “stop gaps.” There are large scale photos of a large number of windows from Chartres so you can study the detail. There is also a contemporary exhibition of modern which is very thought provoking. Very interesting collection. Nice once. Interesting collection I think most people have missed this nice museum to visit in Chartres. They have good description to the iconography of each object, as well as good video of the technique of making color glass. More worthy to see are their medieval objects of color glasses. The contemporary exhibition downstairs is interesting. In their yard there was an catto seems on alert to the visitors, which made the visit quite “medieval”. If you want a day trip from Paris, I highly recommend Chartres, a very charming little town dominated by the Notre Dame de Chartres, a Unesco listed cathedral. Stunning leadlights and the cathedral’s detailed sculptures make you wonder how they built it a thousand years ago and how incredibly talented and clever people were then. My photos do not do the justice. It’s only 1 hr by train from Paris, unfortunately we couldn’t stay for the evening light show. It is mind numbing in detail and not very interesting after the first 5 minutes. We hoped/ thought it we would learn more about the process and evolution of same of stain over the centuries.
