Nice place to walk, l can't say peaceful as cyclists on an organised run! Why cycle through a nature reserve? It's possible to find a peaceful areas off the beaten track where they can't go! One of the very, very few areas where dogs can walk thanks to a public right of way rather than any sense of altruism on the part of the Somerset Wildlife Organisation. It’s a quiet beautiful place and if you can beat the workman wielding industrial machinery you’ll see some amazing including Bearded Reedling and Great Crested Grebe. You have to pay £3 for parking by card only, even if you are just turning round as a camera records your arrival. We went on a guided walk around the reserve, which I would highly recommend. There were so many to see and hear, but lots of plants to spot too. There's a lot of work being carried out to re-establish the mire. There's a fee to park but it's not that much and it goes to support the work of the Wildlife Trust who manage the reserve. A great place to see birds. Multiple hides and a nice walk between them. Car parking £3 all day. Lovely first visit , car park charges are about to start , £3 all day Some paths still flooded at moment but great couple of hours wandering about watching the Marsh Harriers and other What a lovely place. So much wildlife here. We saw loads of 4 spot chasers, beautiful demoiselles and blue damsel flys. Not so many but then we had forgotten our binoculars! But we did see coots, moorhens, heron, Cormorants and heard loads of in the reeds that we couldn't see. Just a great place. Lovely hides not as busy as the bigger cousin down the road. Would recommend 💯 Amazing place to visit for wildlife and especially bird watching, with other sites very nearby, like the hawk and owl trust, and Avalon marshes centre. Load's of walks all around this area ...take your binoculars!!! Not very impressed - preferred Shapwick Heath and Ham Wall by a long way as there was more access, and more life!! The car park especially, nearly caught me out: as instructed I duly paid my £3 upon return to my car, the machine said "approved" but then rapidly returned to the Pay Now screen which made me suspicious. Sure enough, on checking my bank later I found payment hadn't been taken. Luckily you have time to pay after leaving but if I hadn't checked I would have had to pay a £60 fine. Beware all ye who come after!!! And before anyone has a rant at my rant - yes I am a local. It's a beautiful place to relax and listen to the birds. Accepting you can't control the lack of wildlife, so a review based on the parking system instead; The Trust have chosen to go with the ironically named "parkwithease" service which apparently doesn't work. Machine out of action and the appended note suggests this happens often . Trying to pay online it claims we didn't visit. Meanwhile my family member with an annual permit is being threatened with court action for not paying despite sending back the the email confirmation and a bank statement. All a bit amateur.
